I am trying to find an old book that was about a woman who was driving
across the country (from New York to Los Angeles, I think) with her
two children to meet her fiancee in LA. Along the way, she begins to
think someone may be stalking her and/or trying to kill her. At first
she thinks it might be her ex-husband, but that turns out to be false.
Then, she begins to think it might be her fiancee. I don't know how
the book ends. It might have been a novella or an Alfred Hitchcock
presents book.

Do you remember the approximate year that you encountered this book?
Even a range of years (e.g., 1960-65, 1974-77, etc.) might help.

Was it a paperback?

You mention that it might have been a "novella." Is there any
possibility that it was in a book with more than one story?

It was a paperback from the 1970's and it was definitely the whole
book (no additional stories were included), but it was not very long.
It could have been one of those horror novels aimed at teenagers.
But, I vaguely remember it being a Hitchcock related title. However,
after consulting with a Hitchcock expert it seems that it was unlike a
hitchcock presents title.

Some of the interesting things about the story was that the woman had
trouble getting the police to help her because she was travelling from
state to state so the police jurisdictions made it difficult to keep
it an ongoing investigation. It is was a thriller.

Okay, thanks. That helps.

Would you happen to have any recollection of where you originally
obtained the book? School library? Public library? Bookstore?

If you had to guess, would you say that the date was closer to the
early '70s or the late '70s?

It was closer to the early 70's from the bookstore.
