How do you turn on the 9 pin computer plug on the back of a Motorola
Digital cable box? The TiVo help desk guy said that I needed to get
the cable company to turn it on but they don't know how (or won't) .
Motorola won't talk to anyone but the cable company.

The tivo guy said that the cable company had to send a signal via
their cable network. Could there also be a way to turn it on by
pushing buttons on the box?

I worked with some similar boxes once, and the RS232 9-pin connectors
could only be activated for service, with the use of a physical dongle
(basically, I had to remove the cover, and attach a special circut
board to a header on the motherboard). It is possible the controller
on your box is of a similar design.
