My fiancée and I will likely be moving to SanAntonio, Texas in the
spring of next year and we want to buy a house. She will be a medical
resident and will split her time between hospitals at two of the
military bases in the city: Wilford Hall Medical Center
(http://www.whmc.af.mil/) and Brooke Army Medical Center (BAMC)
(http://www.bamc.amedd.army.mil/). When we previously visited the
city, we met with a realtor that showed us predominantly newer houses
that were on the northwest side of the city. After meeting with the
realtor, we decided that the houses that we were shown were not really
our style. Rather than having a new house, we decided that we
preferred an older, more historic neighborhood. The only problem is
that we are having a difficult time finding neighborhoods that meet
our criteria. In order of importance, the things that we are seeking
are
1.	A neighborhood containing older houses (i.e. 75 years or older)
that are affordable ($250,000 or less for a house that is about 3
bedroom, 2 bath)
2.	The neighborhood is convenient to both Wilford Hall and BAMC.
Preferably, this would mean that it is no more than a 15 minute drive
to either base.
3.	The neighborhood is safe.
4.	Property taxes are low.
5.	Property values are appreciating substantially.
6.	Schools are good (no kids yet, but perhaps in a few years). May be
in complete conflict with criteria #4, but I?m being hopeful.

One of the neighborhoods that we thought attractive was Alamo Heights.
However, it was, in general, quite expensive. Ideally, we would like
to identify something similar in character to this area, but at a more
affordable price. Please help us find our neighborhood. Ask
questions if need-be. $5 tip or better for an excellent answer.
Thanks,
svannes
