Dear Flea,

Here are official statistics for you:

1960 DC - 763,956 Washington Metro - 1,989,377

1970 DC - 756,492 Washington Metro - 2,861,102

1980 DC - 638,333 Washington Metro - 2,409,081

1990 Dc - 606,900 Washington Metro - 3,923,574

2000 DC - 572,059 Washington Metro - 4,923,153

As you could see, as the DC population decreased, the Metro population
grew considerably, except for 1970-1980.

Bureau. 1950, 1960, 1970, 1980, 1990, and 2000 Censuses. " Population

- the source also analyses immigrant vs. original population.

I hope this answers your question. I searched the web using the search
terms [dc population ?name of a decade/year-] in order to find an
answer (For example:

Washington Metro Area is defined as "Loudoun, Prince William, Fairfax,
Arlington, Montgomery and Prince George's counties, Alexandria and
D.C." (According to Washington Business Journal,

This is the first time I have submitted a question...and I didn't
understand how to expedite the response...I think you should make that
part of the inquiry as I needed to report back to the CFO with the
info...otherwise perfect. thank you
