I have found the foreign-born population for Chicago, and the
geographic breakdown of the foreign-born population for the U.S.
(showing that a large majority were from Europe), for 1880, 1890,
1900, 1910, and 1920, as well as other years. This is not exactly
what you asked for, but should give you a sense of the immigration
patterns. Would these statistics be sufficient?

Number of foreign born living in Chicago during those years. Also
number during those years born in the Deep South (esp. Mississippi,
Alabama, Georgia, South Carolina, Louisianna) broken down by race.

You might want to ask a separate question relating to the number born
in the Deep South broken down by race. The initial question related
only to European immigrants. You can set a price on the question
relating to the Deep South to reflect how difficult and important it
seems to you. See:

Please let me know if you would like my answer here with respect to
the number of European immigrants in Chicago during those years.

Yes, I would like your answer to my question about the foreign-born in
Chicago. I will send the other as a separate question. Thank you.
I'm new at this.

Hello daybreak-ga,

The statistics you want are contained in Table 2 and especially Table
19 (for U.S. and Chicago populations, respectively) on the following
page:

"Historical Census Statistics on the Foreign-born Population of the
United States: 1850-1990", by Campbell J. Gibson and Emily Lennon
(February 1999)
U.S. Bureau of the Census
http://www.census.gov/population/www/documentation/twps0029/twps0029.html

You might find other tables interesting, such as Table 4, which
provides details on the particular country of origin for foreign-born
persons in the U.S.
