Suppose you are a euro-based investor who just sold Microsoft shares that you had bought six months ago. You had invested 10,000 euros to buy Microsoft shares for US$120 per share; the exchange rate was US$1.15 per euro. You sold the stock for US$135 per share and converted the dollar proceeds into euro at the exchange rate of US$1.06 per euro. First, determine the profit from this investment in euro terms. Second, compute the rate of return on your investment in euro terms. How much of the return is due to the exchange rate movement? Please show all calculations |

Profit = ?10,000 X $1.15/? / $120/share X $135/share / $1.06/? - ?10,000 = ?2205.19 Rate of Return = ?2205.19/?10,000 = 22.05% Rate of Return from exchange-rate movement = (?10,000X $1.15/? / $1.06/? - ?10,000) / ?10,000 = 8.49% Sincerely, Wonko |

rated this answer:![]() I had calculated rate of return in a arse about way, and came at 21.55%. Double checking I found the error and got a similar result. Thanks! My only comment is that brackets would have added extra clarity |
