I would like to know the yearly values of the TSE 300 index since its
inception.

All I could find was Yahoo's historical quotes but it only lists the
values of this index from 1984.

Marcus,

I have year-end values (December averages) for the period of 1976 to
1983 - assuming that you have the data from 1984 on. With copying more
values I could also supply you the other monthly values from 1976 to
present. I am also assuming you have seen the yearly values prior to
1976 provided in one of the comments to your answer.

December average values for the TSE 300 composite index:

Dec 1976 1011.50
Dec 1977 1059.60
Dec 1978 1309.00
Dec 1979 1813.20
Dec 1980 2268.70
Dec 1981 1954.20
Dec 1982 1958.10
Dec 1983 2552.40

You can find these values in the hardcopies of the Bank of Canada
Review quarterly periodicals (1978 - 1984). These periodicals are
available in libraries (especially university libraries).

Just as a reference see the 1994 - 2001 Bank of Canada Review issues
online at
http://www.bankofcanada.ca/en/review/revlist.htm (but no data
available).

Just a little reminder: the TSE 300 composite index is now called
S&P/TSX composite index. Additionally, the TSE 300 composite index was
"born" in 1976. Prior it was just called the TSE index. You can verify
the whole story about the Toronto Stock Exchange at
http://www.spglobal.com/releases/tsehistory.pdf

Contact me if you need more clarification.
Sincerely
OS

The TSE 300 has only existed since 1977. Prior to that there was the
TSE industrial index.

Couldn't find all the data, but this is close:

Although the data can be obtained for a fee, I have found one data set
online for free. It is .csv file, which is best viewed using Microsoft
Excel. If you are unable to view the file, just make a question
clarification and I'm sure someone will extract the annual values and
list them for you.

I also found a graph showing the figures for 1956-2001

The following pdf shows the "Total Quarterly Return" and "Total
Cumulative Return" since 1978.

I hope this helps answer some of your question.
