Unfortunately I do not know the authors name. It was requested by a
WW 2 Thunderbolt pilot. I have the first few lines which go like
this:
I have it from his mother, "tis the custom with them all
When they've finished with their training
To fly home and pay a call.
Not as earthbound soldiers do it or as sailors home from sea.
But as pilots of the heavens in the cause of liberty.
Now the trick that's known as dusting
Is swooping from the skies
While his mother's standing watching
With the sadness in her eyes.
