For Bobbie7-ga, please.
Hi again! I am looking for a steam press. I would like it to:
1. Be under $300 (actually, the lower the price, the better, of course)
2. Be at least 22" deep.
3. Open from the side instead of from the back, so that I can slide fabric thru.
4. Must have a "wool/nylon" or Medium setting.

I am not partial to a specific type or brand. I am aware of the ones
that Singer and Panasonic make, but they are too small (not a big
enough press area) and (I think!) only open from the back, so feeding
fabric thru would not be possible.

My grandmother mentioned that she once had one many, many years ago
that was like two rollers that you fed the cloth between. The ones
that I am thinking of nowadays are more like two mini ironing boards
that clamp together. (See this link for pictures and descriptions

)

Thanks,
Jude

Hi Jude,

I have bad news and good news.

The bad news is that I located a number of steam presses for less than
$300.00; however they don?t open from the side.

The good news is that I found the specifications for the Singer steam
press model CSP1 that you mentioned in your question. This model
apparently meets your requirements as opens from the side as well in
order to iron long or wide material like sheets or curtains and the
pressing area is 56cm long 26cm wide. (Perhaps it may not be wide
enough.)

Singer Steam Press CSP1

?This new compact steam press can be used both rear to front in the
conventional manner and side to side for pressing wide or long
clothing, curtains, sheets etc.?

Pressing area 56cm long 26cm wide

Singer CSP1 Steam Press:
Price: £249 Sale Price: £196 http://www.pfaffmachines.co.uk/presses.htm

Here?s a picture of it when it?s opened from the side

I went to the Singer Shop and downloaded the CSP1 manual.
http://www.singershop.com/manuals/CSP1/CSP1.pdf

Please read page 12 of the manual:

?Orientation Change of Pressing Plate and Ironing Board
For pressing wide and long clothing, press the Orientation Change
Button 'A' and turn the Pressing Plate 'C' through 90 degrees.
Push down the Orientation Change Lever 'B' and turn the Ironing Board
'D' through 90 degrees. The Pressing Plate and the Ironing Board will
be automatically locked in the new position when the Button and Lever
are released.?

There?s a picture on page 22 as well.

Here?s another model that opens from the back but it may meet your
requirements since it's made for big items.

Singer SP-5 steam press

?This new Singer SP-5 steam press is great for big items like sheets
and duvet covers. The upper plate opens extra wide for really bulky
items and there's room at the back of the steam press to hold the bulk
material while you feed the fabric through, folding as you go.

Here's another model with a roller similar to the one your grandmother
mentioned but it's quite expensive.

"Miele brings the rotary ironer into your home. The wide width roller
allows you to press everything from shirts and pants to bed linens and
tablecloths. This unique design gently presses delicate lace or puts
razor sharp creases into pants. The large space between the roller and
hot plate makes feeding in clothing easy and the open end accommodates
larger, awkward items. The cloth-covered roller rotates at a variety of
speeds and is operated by a foot pedal, allowing you to sit while you
iron. The rotary ironer has wheels for easy transportation and folds
away for easy storage."

Bobbie7, I like the Singer CSP1, but the problem with it is that I
need my press to be at least 22 *inches* deep. This one is only 26
*centimeters*. And, obviously, the Miele, while very cool, is out of
my budget! LOL! Is there nothing that is this deep? -Jude

Dear Jude,

I did additional research and unfortunately I couldn't find a suitable
steam press for you.

In any case this question will remain open and perhaps another
researcher will find the exact product you require.

Sincerely,
Bobbie7

Way out of the price range, I know, but it's the only one I've seen
with rollers. I covet it.
