Question ID: 273909
How do I set my Internet Explorer options to do the following two things:
1. Always display the Status Bar
2. When I click on the address field, the curser is like three
characters wide and grey. I have to click again to get a single
character curser. (Like a slim line that lets me position it in
between two letters).
Thanks,
Jude1

Thanks to both of you! The first one worked perfectly!! As for the
second, I am not quite sure that I understand. I have My Yahoo as my
homepage (although, to make you feel better, I *do* have the
GoogleBar!). ???

Hi jude1, thanks for the update.

I was wondering...In regards to your second question, is the
greyed-out section actually a portion of the address being
highlighted? For example, the address that is in my address box now
is:
http://answers.google.com/answers/threadview?id=273909#a

If I click once on it, the whole address is highlighted. If I click a
second time, only a section of it is highlighted (such as the word
<answers>), wherever the cursor happens to be. If I click a third
time, the normal thin cursor line appears.

Does this help?

Hi jude1,

Try this for your first question:

1) With (only one) IE open, click View, select: Status Bar
2) Right-click on IE's Toolbar and select: "Lock the Toolbar"
3) Hold down the Ctrl key and click the close button (upper right)
4) Open Windows Explorer, click View, select: Status Bar
5) Right-click on Explorer's Toolbar and select: "Lock the Toolbar"
6) Click Tools | Folder Options | View tab
7) Click the "Apply to all folders" button.
8) Hold down the Ctrl key and click the close button (upper right)
9) Open IE to any page, right-click on a link and select: "Open in New Window"
10)Verify that these Registry entries exist:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main
"Show_StatusBar"="yes"
"Show_URLinStatusBar"="yes"

Sorry, I can't help with your cursor question.

There is a good chance your 'wide cursor' issue is caused by something
called auto-highlighting.

When you click on an address in Internet Explorer, it automatically
highlights the entire line of text. In your case, the entire line may
be a set of spaces, so you see only a gray blob. You can verify if
this is the case... click on your Address bar twice, like you normally
do, to get a thin cursor. Then use the Left and Right arrow keys...
can you move the cursor? Then it you have blank spaces there.

If you have the apaces as the cause, first know that they are
harmless... you can simply start typing right away even without a thin
cursor and it will just work. Second, you can fix it by going to the
Tools menu, then Options, and changing your homepage to something
useful... like, say, www.google.com.

Hope this helps.
