I'm looking for a casual jacket (not a vest) with basic slash/stab
resistance. Probably something with kevlar etc. in panels but
especially lower sleeves. To be worn with or without an existing
ballistic concealment vest.

Anything better/ lighter than my padded bike jacket will do.

Thanks!

Would a denim jacket meet your needs?

Yes, this would meet the requirements of my question and would qualify
as a valid ***** answer for my $10 question. I could even send in an
existing jacket for armoring.

For a further $5 tip, could you find me an off-the shelf casual knife
resistant jacket that would be acceptable as 'smart casual' in an
office or country-club environment (ie no denim) and preferably
doesn't have a big trauma flap jutting out behind the front zip?

spurious..

Thanks for your question. Finding a casual jacket that is knife
resistant as well as fairly stylish was a bit more daunting than I had
expected. However, I was able to find the following:

Bennett Safteywear has a denim with the following capabilities:
Full front, back and side protection
Anti stab (KR1 & KR2) and or ballistic protection (9mm & .357 Magnum) available
Choose our own label or branded jacket
Or alternatively send in your own jacket for up-armouring

As you saw, you can also send in your own jacket for armoring. You
can see information regarding this item at
http://www.bennettsafetywear.co.uk/denim.htm

You can visit their homepage at http://www.bennettsafetywear.co.uk/

Regarding the levels of protection, the difference between KR1 and KR2 KR1
Exceeds the Anti-Slash capability. KR1 is made with "layered Aircraft
grade stainless steel (not tiles - subject to failure on angled
attack) this level is the choice of police and security organizations.
It's construction is designed to resist violent knife assault,
slashing and the much reported syringe threat.

KR2
A significant level of protection. In practice this level is suited to
wearers who select jacket style armour rather than concealable type.
Undershirt armour of this level might prove uncomfortable if worn for
full shifts of duty. SUITED TO HIGH RISK OCCUPATION"

Unfortunately, I was unable to located a slash-resistant, "Dress"
jacket. Due to the bulk requirements of the armor, it may be
impossible to create such an item. I would suggest contacting Bennett
and asking them directly.
