As far as I know, the touchpad is disabled when an external mouse is
connected. Is it possible that they can operate simultaneously? I
haven't seen any proof of it

Greetings!

What brand and model of notebook is this?

What OS are you running?

Do you know if the touchpad lives on the PS/2 interface, or USB, or
some other interface?

You can run both a PS/2 interface HID (mouse) and a USB HID at the
same time, under some operating systems.

Questions Clarifications

Notebook: Clevo 2700C (SIS 630S motherboard)
Touchpad: Alps Point Pro ver 5.3.902.3 drivers
Mouse: Logithech MouseMan Traveller
OS: Windows XP Professional

Both devices can work at the same time with standard features(movement
and buttons), but if I use the touchpad drivers I can not use the
wheel in the mouse and I can not use the speciall functions of the
third button. And if a I use the logitech driver the mouse works fine
but the "tap" of the touchpad and the scroll, back and forward
gestures are disabled.

Do you have the Logitech plugged into the a USB port or is it plugged
into the PS/2 port?

Hi there,

I currently have the ability to do this on my Toshiba notebook. I use
a logitech USB optical mouse and the touchpad in my notebook. Could
you elaborate more on your hardware and which functions are disabled?

I can use an Apple Powerbook G3 (Wall Street) trackpad with Kensington
USB Expert Mouse Pro simultaneously. Not bragging, just noting that I
never thought one mouse would disable the other.

Don't have the equipment to check, but Logitech supports lists such
problem. Have a look at

http://www.logitech.com/cf/support/1022.cfm

[Q: I have a portable computer which has an internal pointing device.
I have connected a Logitech 3 or 4 button pointing device to the PS/2
mouse port on this system, and installed the software. Both mice work
at the same time but when I open the Enhanced Mouse Control Center the
picture of the mouse only shows 2 buttons. How do I get the correct
picture?]

and possible at
http://www.logitech.com/cf/support/1024.cfm.

Note: wheel mouse is in fact 4 button mouse.

This is not possible, due to the drivers and the way they are used by Windows.

msgus, have you read the link I provided? Btw looks like it changed

http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm?page=support/products/document&crid=320&contentid=4540&countryid=28&languageid=1

Logitech mouse doen't requires own driver to make middle button work.
If you have one you may for example setup middle button and change
mouse drive from logitech to general, middle button still works.
