huff-ga,
?Possibilities?
Education constitutes nothing less than the chance for a better, more
interesting life. As a student, I embrace the challenges,
opportunities and experiences that my education continues to offer
me?both academic and social. Preparing one?s mind for the future is a
monumental task, yet I feel that my education is well on the way to
fulfilling this task.
It is amazing to me just how much potential education has when
influencing students? lives, including my own. Browsing through a
course catalog, the sense of possibility is at once overwhelming and
reassuring. There is so much to choose from, and yet surely I will
find my true calling somewhere in the pages of that catalog. But how
different my life may turn out were I to indicate my major as this
instead of that, or were I simply to opt for class A instead of class
B. Each class is a window into an entire world of ideas, constructs
and ideologies, as well as an introduction to an entirely different
set of people?students and teachers alike.
I find this sense of possibility to be fascinating, and somewhat
daunting at the same time. Although I feel comfortable with my own
set of academic choices, I cannot help but wonder how I would be
changed were I to have chosen a different study track. How would my
brain be affected were I to expose myself to these different thought
processes? Alas, the practicalities of our lives deem it necessary to
make a choice, and this I have done. Nevertheless, the fact that one
single force--?Education?-- has the ability to shape each and every
student with equivalent impact even though they travel down very
different roads in its vast landscape, is intriguing.
The sheer variety of courses of study that are offered by that great
force of Education makes me wonder if it really matters which course
of study one chooses. For in the end, are we not learning how to
learn? That seems to be the most important of skills, for with the
tools and knowledge of the learning process itself, the possibilities
for the rest of one?s life become that much closer to limitless.
As I move closer towards my graduation date, I can only hope that it
will mark the start of my true Education, rather than its end, for
what I have learned I will take with me forever. I will never stop
learning, and my experiences as a student have taught me this. I look
forward to discovering more about my chosen field of study as well as
about life itself and the universe in which we live.
The time and energy I have invested into my education will turn out to
be well spent, of this I am sure. No other investment could offer me
the incredible range of possibilities that my schooling has provided.
Because of it, I am looking forward to a lifetime of discovery,
learning and ongoing edification. The possibilities are endless.
