bajabill... You don't say which Operating system you're using, and it seems this problem can occur in Windows 95, 98 and ME, so you may have to browse through some of the links I provide to find an answer specific to your system. The most common solution to this problem is nicely detailed on the Auld Farts Computer FAQs website. The question is found in Question (Q4) on this page on CD ROMs: http://www.auldfart.co.uk/cdq.html The answer is on this page, and has to do with replacing the scsi1hlp.vxd file with the original Windows file. Complete instructions for how to accomplish this are given: http://www.auldfart.co.uk/cda.html#(Q4)%20Answer A similar solution is outlined on this page from TechAdvice, along with a second solution, involving Idecdvsd.vxd, if replacing scsi1hlp.vxd does not resolve the error: http://www.techadvice.com/w98/errors/1/er_00049.htm The solution on the page above (TA00049) is given in response to several error scenarios on this page from TechAdvice. You may want to browse through them to see which one best fits your situation: http://www.techadvice.com/issues/how-to.asp?word1=vxd&word2=scsi1hlp Since I don't have direct access to your computer, resolving this problem satisfactorily may require additional dialog between us. Please do not rate this answer until you are satisfied that the answer cannot be improved upon by means of a dialog established through the "Request for Clarification" process. A user's guide on this topic is on skermit-ga's site, here: http://www.christopherwu.net/google_answers/answer_guide.html#how_clarify sublime1-ga Searches done, via Google: "an exception OE has occurred at 0028" VXD scsi1hlp(03) ://www.google.com/search?q=%22an+exception+OE+has+occurred+at+0028%22+VXD+scsi1hlp%2803%29 |

Hi bajabill, i recommend you to reinstall Windows OS on your computer. Rather than searching Google to solve this kind of device driver (VXD files) errors, the best thing is reinstalling windows. i experienced same kind of problems. and if your computer is running windows for more than a year then reinstalling is the best thing to do. With time, windows registry becomes a mess. it can be because of installing and uninstalling of software or can be due to viruses. So if your windows OS is running for more than a year, go ahead and reinstall it. I do reinstall my windows every 6 months. Thanks WhiteWizard |

reapply windows service pack, then update drivers (especially IDE and video), then go into bios and disable unnecessary-sounding stuff, then swap memory slots, then reinstall windows |
