What makes photographic film work is a very thin layer of a light
sentive chemical that has silver in it. When the film is developed,
this silver (yes, like in money) is rinsed off and goes down the
drain.

I would like to contact the company (ies) that make some electrical
gadget that is fitted into the drain line and "picks up" the silver.

John,

This company makes several different kinds of silver recovery devices:

I hesitate to post this as an answer without clearing it with you. Is
this the kind of product you're looking for?

Hola Pinkfreud!!! ¿Habla español?

Hey, great! If it is not too much to ask, could you easily find any
other type of process for silver collecting? It would help me just to
compare. If it is a similar machine, that is ok to.

Post your answer and get a 5-star from me!!

It appears that the leading names in silver recovery equipment are
USI, CPAC, and Rotex. Each of these companies offers a variety of
silver recovery devices:

USI

CPAC
http://www.cpacequipment.com/

Rotex

If your budget is limited, you might want to investigate buying used
equipment. Currently eBay has several silver recovery units:

Here are some silver recovery units at attractive prices:

Photographics Supply, Inc.

The least expensive product I've found is the "Silver Magnet,"
available from Porter's Camera Store for only $34.95:

Porter's Camera Store

The search string that worked best for me was this one:

Google Web Search: "silver recovery unit"

I hope this helps! As always, I'll be glad to offer further assistance
if anything is unclear, or if a link doesn't function.

Buena Suerte!

Here's a silver recovery device that claims to be as effective as
electrolytic units, at lower cost, with little operator involvement:
