Hello, According to this article it was the egg that came first, Howstuffworks "Which came first, the chicken or the egg?" http://www.howstuffworks.com/question85.htm However this article has an argument for the egg coming first, and for the chicken coming first, "Re: Which came first, the chicken or the egg?" http://www.madsci.org/posts/archives/jun2000/960571926.Ev.r.html And this article argues that the question makes no sense what so ever. It says that evolution makes this question illogical because chickens as we know them today evolved over such a long period of time that no one can really pin-point when the 1st chicken (or chicken egg) came into existence. "Which came first, the chicken or the egg?" http://www.cs.colorado.edu/~lindsay/creation/chicken_egg.html In fact based on that last article you could argue that chickens (and chicken eggs) don't exist. Because if chickens are constantly evolving; then the creature that was first named chicken must have evolved into something else (albeit very similar to the chicken as we knew them when the word chicken was invented, but slightly different none the less) there by warranting the need for a new name for this modern day chicken descendant... hehe :) So based on my findings, this question has many conflicting answers... Hope this helps, let me know if you need some more info. --jld | |

The egg. The egg has a less complex build, therefor allowing for evolution into the egg. However, the breathing organs and such of the chicken is of a DNA build so complex the build would had to be he oringal yet re-built and re-organzied DNA build of the egg. |

Aside from religious and biblical beliefs, it was the egg that came first. The answer is simple biological mutation. The 'Hen' and the 'Rooster' of the first true egg that hatched into a chicken as we know today, were not true chickens, but proto-chickens. The proto-chickens mated, and in the recombination of their DNA, a mutation occured, forming the specific DNA of the egg as we have today. :) |
