How can I tell if a cell phone is locked or not? Specifically, I have
a Handspring treo 300 phone that I need to know if is locked or not.

Hi,

When you mean locked, is this for using a SIM card from another
provider or for installing certain applications?

If it's for SIM lock, just insert another SIM card and if it works
it's not locked, if it doesn't work or asks for a code, then it
probably is locked.

I'm sorry if this seems to be a simplistic answer, maybe you had
something else in mind? In any case please let me know.

Thanks.

Basically, I want to know if I can sell my phone on E-bay. It doesn't
do much good to someone else if its locked, but if its unlocked, then
its of value. I don't have a SIM card so I couldn't check that, and I
don't think thats what I want to do.

Thanks,
   Darrell

Hi,

Thank you for your clarification, after doing some research, it
appears to me that the Treo 300, doesn't even open on the back, and
doesn't take a SIM card, it also seems that they all seem to be locked
to the Sprint PCS network. Does this seem consistent with what you
were expecting? If so, I can give you several URLs listing information
about the Treo 300, would you accept this as an answer?

Thanks.

I ended up going to a sprint store and finding out that the phone isn't
locked and that I could sell it on E-bay. They checked it for me.
However, I appreciate your efforts and will accept what you've provided so
far as an answer.

Thank you for your kind offer, however since I didn't actually provide
you with any help, I must politely decline.
I hope you use Google Answers again.
Thanks.
