Hi,
Although you don't have the year correct, you are almost certainly
referring to the Azusa Street Revival of 1906. The series of events
that took place that year in Los Angeles played a major role in the
development of Pentecostalism as a Christian movement in the United
States. It has been the subject of numerous books and articles.
First of all, here are some of the books written about that revival. I
am providing you with links to the book's descriptions at Amazon.com,
although of course the books can be purchased elsewhere.
The Life and Ministry of William J. Seymour
This book has been described as the most complete biography available
of Seymour, whose preaching launched the revival.

The revivals were truly an interesting part of American history. Of
course, like other movements of its kind, the revival had its
believers and its skeptics. Here are descriptions and excerpts of
various Web sites I could find about the subject:
William Joseph Seymour (1870 - 1922)
This is a brief, sympathetic biography of Seymour that has some
interesting quotes from newspaper articles of the day.

Azusa Street Revival 1906
"Disgraceful intermingling of the races, they cry and make howling
noises all day and into the night. They run, jump, shake all over,
shout to the top of their voice, spin around in circles, fall out on
the sawdust blanketed floor jerking, kicking and rolling all over it.
Some of them pass out and do not move for hours as though they were
dead. These people appear to be mad, mentally deranged or under a
spell. They claim to be filled with the spirit. They have a one
eyed, illiterate, Negro as their preacher who stays on his knees much
of the time with his head hidden between the wooden milk crates. ..."
