Not my question really but former close friend of mine whose name is
Michelle is adamant there is a song called "Michelle" that has nothing
to do with famous Beatles version. I cannot find it on the net and
dont expect anyone else can either but just in case she is right for
the first or maybe second time in her life I ask here on GA and see
what someone comes up with.

 Thanking you in advance,

 John From Melbourne

Hi!

Does this mean that you will settle for any song that has the name
"Michelle" on the title?

Thanks!

Clarification of Question by johnfrommelbourne-ga on 12 Nov 2003 04:42 PST
Well I did not think I would have to "settle" as you say. I was hoping
to have someone ascertain with some surety that there is or there is
not another song called Michelle or with just a couple of words
attached to that word that still leave the word Michelle as central
and obviously the key part of very short title, e.g 1) My Michelle, 2)
Michelle, Michelle,3)I love Michelle, 4)Michelle my love, 5)Sweet
Michelle,6)Michelle and me etc etc.

 Does this help,

Dear Easter,
If after reasonble research time you as a qualified and
well credentialled researcher cannot find anything to suggest that
there is such a song as asked in question and clarified in
clarification section then that then is the answer,i.e "There is no
such song" and I could no more than ask you to take the money and
thank you for your efforts. Just give it a good shot is all I ask and
know you will do.

Clarification of Question by johnfrommelbourne-ga on 12 Nov 2003 04:49 PST
She,by the way, is adamant that song is simply called Michelle but is
nothing like the Beatles version which will likely confuse you more
but i have added anyway.

Request for Question Clarification by easterangel-ga on 12 Nov 2003 05:39 PST
Yes it confused me even more. I thought I was on to something. :)

Final Clarification:

I have found two songs by two famous artists in the arena of the "e.g
1) My Michelle, 2)Michelle, Michelle,3)I love Michelle, 4)Michelle my
love, 5)Sweet
Michelle,6)Michelle and me etc etc." as you said. Nothing on the
Michelle only song.

Will this do as an answer?

Thanks!

Curiously enough, I have to ask for an entirely different sort of
clarification. I have preliminarily identified several songs called
"Michelle" (one word). Audio clips of at least three of them are
available online. The ones I have listened to include an instrumental
jazz tune, a French pop song and a sort of hip-hop version (I'm not an
expert in hip-hop).

Before I go further, I am wondering whether a list identifying each of
these songs (plus links to audio clips) would be sufficient, or would
you like me to take a stab at finding the very one that your friend
recalls. If the latter, I will need a little more information from
you on what Michelle remembers about "Michelle."

Hmmm, I found a song called Michelle by a band called Xymox. Not sure
though if this is what your Michelle would want to hear!!!

Hi John,

There is a factual basis for Michelle's claim. The All Music Guide
lists 23 recordings of songs titled "Michelle" other than the one by
Lennon and McCartney.

The artists are:

Andy
Spanner Banner
Cody Chesnutt
Clan of Xymox
George Clinton
DJ Logic
DJ Spooky
Jorge Dominguez
Richard Elliot
Flat Duo Jets
Stan Getz
Audra Kubat
Lynyrd Skynyrd
Marian McPartland
Tony Mottola
Pink Turns Blue
Plado
Rascalin
Ripe Cherry
George Robert
Spinatras
Clark Terry
Warren Vache

Most of these represent different songs, but a few are the same song
recorded by different artists. For example, the Marian McPartland
entry is a radio show with Clark Terry as a guest, and the song is the
same one Clark Terry recorded himself. There was also a false hit on
a recording by Andy Williams that turned out to be the
Lennon-McCartney song. The Guide does not show songwriters for all
entries and I did not list recordings with unspecified songwriters, so
there could be more than I listed above.

There are also recordings of "Michele" with one "l" by:

Gerard Lenorman
David McMurray
Bobby Rosengarden (songwriter unidentified, could be Lennon-McCartney)
Bryan Savage
Trailer Park Casanovas

I'm not going to quote the search results URL, because it looks like
it's not permanent, but you can reproduce the search by going to
www.allmusic.com, clicking the "songs" button, entering "Michelle" in
the search field, and clicking "go." This will take you to a page
with song titles, with "Michelle" at the top, with 329 recordings.
Click on that title to get to the four-page list of recordings, mostly
of the Lennon-McCartney song.

I am assuming that you are just looking for songs of that title, and
not expecting us to guess which one Michelle had in mind.

Search Strategy

I already knew that the All Music Guide had an extensive index of
recorded music by song title, so I looked there and found the results
above.

I hope this answers your question. If you need any further
information, please ask for a clarification.

Thankyou very much efn.
I was just about ad the following in clarification section but you
answered justa minute before I had chance.

Dear Rsearchers all,
Gee I am sorry to be so difficult and I do
appreciate what you are trying to do. I am not 100% sure whatI want
either now seeing the different responses I got but if Mark is on the
right track and there is a couple of songs called Michelle that are
not simply remakes/cover versions of the Beatles song then that
perhaps is the key to answer.

 John From Melbourne.

However looking at your answer although only briefly to date it
appears that your answer is about as comprehensive as it is
reasonably possible(including reference to priced paid) so I think the
five starrs is about right in the
circumstances

I see that your question has already been answered by an eager
researcher, but I thought I would at least give you the benefit of
some additional information that I had uncovered while I was awaiting
your clarification.

Here are links to a page on the Web sites of the two main U.S. music
licensing organiziations that includes a list of songs titled
"Michelle," along with their composers and, in some cases, artists who
have recorded them:

ASCAP: Title Search: Michelle
http://www.ascap.com/ace/search.cfm?requesttimeout=300&mode=results&searchstr=MICHELLE&search_in=t&search_type=exact&search_det=t,s,w,p,b,v&pagenum=1&start=1

BMI: Title Search: Michelle
http://repertoire.bmi.com/TitleSearch.asp?querytype=WorkName&page=1&fromrow=1&torow=25&keyname=michelle&blnWriter=True&blnPublisher=True&blnArtist=False&blnAltTitles=False

I could also give you some links to audio clips of a few of them if
you are interested in trying to determine which of the several
"Michelles" is the one that your friend remembers.
