Question ID: 275068
What retail canadian stores (not on-line) sell urban wear such as
Avirex, Jlo, Shott, Mecca, Ecko and Roc-a-Wear? List at least 50 to
200 Stores names with location. (do not repeat stores even if they
have many locations)

Clarification of Question by speedyg-ga on 21 Nov 2003 12:19 PST
The "not on-line" refers to sites that sell these clothes without
being actual physical retail store... Basically I need addresses or
phone numbers, either will do.
           Thank you.

Hi speedyg-ga,

This type of question usually requires an extensive amount of effort
on the part of the researcher unless there is some centralized listing
that exactly meets your request (in this case there doesn't seem to
be). As a result, you may consider increasing your list price.
Personally I think that any such list would be composed of mainly
small stores scattered across the country.

Although I cannot speak for other researchers, I would answer this
question for $200. It is entirely your decision if you want to wait in
case another researcher decides to answer your question. In the
meantime, you might consider looking at the Google Answers price

Dear Pidge,
this is indeed a tough one. The stores I have contacted would like to
know what you plan to use the information for...can you share that
with me?
Also, I want to make sure we're in agreement what brands fall into
the "urban wear" category. I have a list here, and would like to
make sure you agree these are the ones you're looking for:
(besides the ones you mentioned)
Akademiks, Converse, DKNY Jeans, Enyce, Fila, Fubu, G-Unit, Girbaud, Hustler,
Johnny Blace, Kangol, Lacoste, Levi's, LRG, Madsoul, North Face, P.Miller, Pass
the Roc, Pelle Pelle, Pepe Jeans, Phat Farm, Polo Jeans, Puma, SOHK,
Sean John, Southpole, Timberland, Tommy Hilfiger, 555 Soul, Vokal,
Baby Phat, Blue Marlin, Femme Arsenal, Flame, Lady Enyce,
Playboy, Sergio, Tommy Girl. Let me know if there are any of these you
are NOT interested in. Hope to hear from you soon Thanks! cath-ga

To answerguru if you wish to have a larger sum paid to u that isn't
really a problem, however I need to know your time delay as well as if
u are going to be closer to 50 store names or 200.

To cath, I am a clothing manufacturer, I intend to enter the urban
wear market with a new urban line but before I do so I am researching
the market to find out what is a feasible projection of sales. (I
studied mathematics and statistics so I am quite adept at this)I
mostly sell clothes in the U.S. right now and I have a high end
product, so my present clients wouldn't be who I would be targeting
for this line.

To answer your second question Fila, Lacoste, North Face, P.Miller and
Polo Jeans aren't really what I am talking about but all the others
you listed are.

Good day,
         Jonathan F.

Thanks for your clarifications. It is good to know you can offer a good
tip, since this is a time-consuming project. There is no one good directory
I've found, so I've been e-mailing companies one by one. I'd say
getting 50 yes replies will be very lucky. Do you have a deadline? I
can probably get out all the necessary e-mails today and tomorrow,
but the stores may take a while to get back to me. The good news is
the Canadians have a different Thanksgiving date. Let me know what
your deadline might be. Thanks, cath-ga

Idealy I would need the info by the end of the week. What do you mean
by "companies" and stores, let me just remind you that I do not need
manufacturing companies info or even companie like Avirex info, all I
am looking for are stores

Request for Question Clarification by cath-ga on 26 Nov 2003 11:55 PST

Don't worry, I understand. By "companies" I meant retail outlets. I've
figured out a more productive search method and should have many stores
by Friday. cath-ga

Thank you, I am glad to see this isn't impossible to do and I will
wait with anticipation to see your results.

Dear Speedyg,

Thanks very much for your very challenging question! I hope you
had a good Thanksgiving. We did, here in California.

Here are 50 plus stores in Canada that carry ?urban wear? brands.
Many of these stores are part of small or large chains, so this
list actually should represent well over 200 stores. Some of the
spellings are odd, i.e. ?Soular? and ?Norml.? They are correct,
though, and apparently more ?hip? than the ?norml? spellings!

55) I e-mailed the Hudson Bay Company, and have not heard back
yet. You should definitely pursue it however, because
?It accounts for approximately 39% of Canadian department store sales ]
and almost 8% of all retail sales, other than food and automobiles.?

It is apparently a mainstream department store, like Macy?s in the US,
and Macy's carries many of the urban brands.

Hudson Bay Company
401 Bay Street, Toronto, Ontario.

I will let you know if Hudson Bay returns my e-mail, and also if
any other of the dozen or so stores I e-mailed answer affirmatively.

56) SEARS Canada may not fit with your upscale image. However, they
are very big there, and are already looking at urban apparel, as
evidenced ty the following blurb from the Daily Southtown:

?Sears opens urban apparel shops in Chicago area"
Tuesday, November 18, 2003

"Sears, Roebuck and Co. said Monday it's testing urban apparel shops
inside 50 of its full-line department stores in the Chicago region and
eight other metropolitan areas. Located within the young men's apparel
department, the shops feature popular urban wear brands such as FUBU,
Icewear and South Pole, Sears said.?

Perhaps Sears Canada will also try this. The Company's headquarters is
located at

222 Jarvis Street
Toronto, Ontario

You may also want to contact the Urban Wear Show in Toronto to
showcase your line at some point.

?Organized by the Hybrid Group Management, Inc., the Urban Wear
Show made its debut at Toronto Fashion Week during the Fall 2002
season. "This event will be an all-inclusive promotion of not just
urban wear, but the lifestyle that fosters it," commented Everton
Hird, VP of Marketing, Hybrid Group on the announcement of the
creation of the Urban Wear Show. For its initial offering, Urban Wear
featured: Parasuco Jeans, Sean John, Roca Wear, Enyce, The One,
44th Parallel, David Spencer, Triple 5 Soul, C. Coombs.?

involved and I was quite impressed by cath-ga's quality work. I hope
we shall work together again.
