We are interested in web-based software that permits us to identify
by name the domain from which a particular url link on our web site is
accessed. In other words, it would match the inquiring party's url to
the accessed link and then advise as to the company domain name for
this url and provide some further information (such as the city and
state in which the domain is located). This would be presented to us
in a report that is accessible from the web. Do you know of any
web-based software that performs these tasks, and if so please provide
the contact details for this company or companies. Any cost
information would also be appreciated. Thank you.

Let me make sure I understand exactly what you're after -- a website
visitor analysis program that identifies users by their company server
or internet service provider?

This type of software is available, however it important to know the
usage level anticipated (analysis of visitors in the 100's, 1,000's,
1,000,000's over what period), and the server resources available to
compile such data.

Do you prefer to install the software on your own server, or use a
Remotely Hosted application?

What customization resources are available to you, i.e. in-house
programming or data analysis people?

Cost will be greatly dependent upon the scale of the project. Do you
have an anticipated budget, or would you like information on various
options, irregardless of costs? Understanding your needs will improve
the chances matching you up with software that will fulfill your
requirements at an acceptable cost.

Thanks for your query. The answers to your questions are:

- Yes, we are looking for a website visitor analysis program that
identifies users by their company server or internet service provider.
The volume of unique visitors is not at the moment very large - say
500 to 1,000 per week.

- As to location of software, we are flexible. I believe that an asp
solution would be less expensive, and thus would be preferable. You
may have a better idea

- We have in-house programming/customization resources available,
especially for Microsoft SQL or html code

- We do not have a budget, but the strong preference is for
cost-effective alternatives that do not require huge amounts of
customization. For example, I recall that New York Software has some
type of solution, although we do not know if it meet all of our needs
(i.e., connect a domain to a specific url link).
