According to Pony Express history, a stagecoach could cover an average
of 90 miles per day:

That would make the trip from Ely, NV to Wells, NV a day-and-a-half
trip. It's 139 miles from Ely north through the Great Basin along US
93. The Pony Express itself ran E-W across this route, near Wells,
NV:

Wheeless, OK and Tom, OK are at the opposite ends of that state -- the
former in the NW panhandle and 671 miles from Tom, OK -- near the
Arkansas/Texas/Oklahoma border and the Red River.
But you can't get there from either place via jet, as neither town is
large enough to support an airport capable of landing the jet. There
is no public airport in either town or even a private airport with a
hard-surfaced runway, according to the AOPA Airport Directory.
You can also verify this against the Airnav database:
Airnav
"Oklahoma Airports"
http://www.airnav.com/airports/us/OK
The nearest airport capable of handling jet traffic to Wheeless is
Boise City, about 20 miles away. The Boise City Airport has a 4200'
runway capable of handling a business jet.
The nearest airport capable of handling jet traffic in the area around
Tom, OK is in Idabel -- also about 20 miles away. Idabel has both
McCurtain County Regional (runway length 5,000') and Idabel (runway
length 4,000').
So it looks like the stagecoach wins.
Google search strategy:
Ely + Wells + "Pony Express"
Wheeless + Tom
Use Mapquest for locations and distances (http://www.mapquest.com)
Use World Aeronautical Charts and AOPA Airport Directory for airport locations.
