I want to fit a double-glazed side window unit to my Toyota Landcruiser Amazon.
Could you find me a supplier of a suitable double glazed unit in the
UK? Obvious searches of Google like "double glazing for vehicles"
have drawn a blank

Hello wyada3-ga,

I?d like to clarify what you mean by double-glazed.

My preliminary research shows that "double-glazed glass" is used
strictly in construction and is not used for cars. Auto replacement
glass is ?laminated glass? which prevents it from shattering on
impact. (See reference below.) If you?re sure you want double glazed
glass for your Landcruiser, please let me know why you believe this
product should be available. Thanks.

Laminated glass is actually two layers of glass sandwiching a thin
plastic sheet. One or both of these layers of glass may be tempered.
The middle plastic sheet serves to hold the overall glass sheet
assembly together when broken. Laminated glass is used in automotive
windshields and in buildings where safety is a concern.

A double glazed unit comprises two glass panes separated by an air
space, typically ½ in. A perimeter seal/spacer keeps the two glass
panes apart and provides a seal which prevents outside air from
entering the space between the panes. The air space significantly
increases the insulating ability of the window compared to single pane
windows.

Thanks for the feedback. I want to fit the double glazed unit to cut
down cold air draughts which come from the side window. It's
definitely not laminated glass that I am looking for. I believe that
Mercedes used to fit double glazed units to some of their models in
the past.

Hello again wyada3-ga,

You're right. Mercedes has double-glazed windows as do some new Audis.
I found Toyota "leisure vehicles" that have double-glazed windows but
nothing for the Landcruiser. I give up. Maybe another researcher can
come up with a better answer.
