" I saw the paint run down the chestnut tree in a blaze of dappling sunlight into Appaloosa Bay. My stockings were buckskin. Now they are brown. It's all done now. I hang my head my head in sorrel." Anyone with a little horse sense can figure this out. Tellus what thisquoet is referring to and list each one. |

This quote contains references to twelve words which are used in describing horses' coloring. In order, they are: Paint Roan (as 'run') Chestnut Blaze Dapple (as 'dappling') Appaloosa Bay Stockings Buckskin Brown Dun (spelled in the quote as 'done') Sorrel Most of these terms refer to colors; "Appaloosa" is a breed of horse whose coat has a spotted pattern. "Blaze" and "Stockings" refer to markings, usually light-colored ones, on the forehead and legs, respectively. I didn't need to use Google to answer this one: when I was younger, I was very fond of horses, and the names related to horses' coloring just jumped out at me as I read the quote in your question. Best regards, pinkfreud |
