I think this is a tricky one.

I want to know the name and street address of a café in Toulouse where
some of the BBC Radio Five Live team that covered the 2002 French
presidential election were based. I have a feeling it was the 2nd
round of the election, but I'm not 100% sure. The team were there for
maybe three or four mornings.

Just possibly the café was called Zizi or something like that, but I
might be wrong on that.

I've tried searching the various BBC sites, and Google of course, but
got nowhere.

Cheers for your responses so far. It looks like this is more tricky
than I had thought. I suppose I could just try ringing the BBC and
asking direct, but I just hate using the phone!

Anyway, I'm now thinking I might well have been completely wrong in
suggesting the café name was Z!#@.(I am disguising the name to save
the blushes of French-speakers!) I listened to the broadcasts in the
early morning when I was in bed, only half-awake, and so perhaps I got
confused with something else.

So I suppose I'm now really trying to locate which café where BBC
Radio Five did their brodacasts from at that time, without giving you
a possible name. Even more tricky!

By the way, when I got back from the pub last night, I thought that
transatlantic-ga was more specific about the meaning of Z!#@. And now
it seems to be different. Curious. But then I'd had a few pints, so
maybe I was just getting confused again.

Cheers ;)

Well Going on the info provided I was unable to locate a cafe named
anything like zizi in Toulouse France. I used this website which
provided telephone numbers of current businesses in France... I found
out that mapquest.com does have maps of France if you wanna look at
that. Also I will provide the frence telecom directory for you to try
to do more research...if you are wanting to go there things do not
look promising...

There are some 347 cafés in Toulouse, none of which is called Zizi
(which, incidentaly, in french, is a name for a part of the masculine
anatomy which "Google answers" would object me to mention...).
But there are some Cafés which names have some similarities with Zizi:
Le café de Lali
Busy bar
Le Pery
Café du Midi
Le Varsy
L'Oasis
Paddy
Does any of these names strike a bell?

I found brasserie "Les Zazou", 46 av. Minimes, 31200 Toulouse, tel.
05 61 57 08 76,
05 61 57 11 78, at the site of the French Yellow Pages site
www.pagesjaunes.fr. You fill in
"brasserie" under "activite" and "toulouse" under "localite" (and
"zazou" under "nom" if you don't want a list of all the brasseries in
toulouse). You can see a photo of the place (by clicking on "photo")
or a map showing its location by clicking on "plan".

Other possible candidates (although the resemblance makes me think
Zazou is your guy):

Le Zenith restaurant
Les Paparazzi

Hope this helps,
dannidin

Yes, I was more specific when writing about the meaning of "zizi" in
French. But Google Answers rightly objected to such crude language and
censored my message, which I then re-posted using a metaphor! So it
was not just your beer! By the way, I feel that Dannidin's "Zazou"
suggestion is worth pursuing... Lastly, I wonder why you would spend
$10 to find this café... It can't be for the BBC staff (or was one of
them a gorgeous blonde - or brunette or whatever ?).

Cheers

Just a comment on "zizi". While it is indeed a French children's word
for you know what, it is in no way offensive. It is also a synonym for
"bruant", the name of a bird known as "bunting" in English. It is also
the first name of the (famous in France) dancer and actress Zizi
Jeanmaire.
