There was/is a company known as Cardio Technologies, Inc., and as of
2001, they were located at 43 Route 43 East; Pine Brook, NJ
07058-0710. They developed a pneumatic assist device for people with
heart failure. A full description of this device can be found at
http://www.plexus.com/uploads/Cardio_Technologies_Product_Profile_0601CPP.pdf.

My question is, what ever happened to either Cardio Technologies,
Inc., or their assist device. Was it licensed, and if so, to whom?
Did they go out of business? An acceptable answer will contain
information no older than January, 2003 and needs to address at least
one or more of these issues. A great answer would address all issues
as of today.

There is no answer at this time.

Your question was an opportunity for me to explore techniques on
finding a company that has moved, closed, or been acquired. Here are
some leads for you, or for a paid researcher who may be able to take
these a step further to get you a current address for the company or
current status for the device.

The state of New Jersey provides free business name searches and (for
a $5 each fee) address details for registered businesses. There are 2
businesses shown with the name Cardio Technologies ? one domestic
for-profit, one foreign for-profit. You may also find UCC/debt
information from the same site, and there are 2 entries for Cardio
Technologies, Inc (Europe).

The US Patent Office provides search by assignee. There are 7 patents
shown with Cardio Technologies as the assignee. The most recent one
6438411 was granted in August 2002 (filed July 1999). It appears that
the cardiac assist device and related technologies were also patented.
One of those patents is number 6254525.

Link below may (or may not) take you directly to the list of 7 patents.

Patent law firm Darby & Darby is shown as the representing firm on the
patent, and may be able to provide mail-forwarding for an inquiry, or
other connection service. Names and cities of individuals who
authored the invention are also shown on the patent, and you might
attempt to locate and contact them. However once a patent has been
assigned to a corporation the individual inventor seldom is aware of
future license or assignment transfers.

A page for cancereducation.com last updated in November 2003 lists
their company?s founder Mr. Michael S. Weiss as a board member ,
?Additionally, Mr. Weiss is a member of the Board of Directors of
