I am looking for information & recommendations to assist in carving up
a 2100 square foot loft space into a three bedroom residential unit.
Formerly a warehouse, this, essentially rectangular space is void
(except for two posts) with a 14 foot ceiling. Apart from the 'great
room', which could use all 14 feet, I feel that lower ceiling heights
are preferable depending on the floor area and use of the room. e.g. A
cozy, smaller room usually does not have a high ceiling. My question:
Would you please locate spatial instructions for ceiling heights in residential
units that can assist with the design of my project? Thank you

?

What do you mean by "spatial instructions"?

Would information about typical residential ceiling height be sufficient?

I could also give you some information about a Japanese method for
determining optimal ceiling height. Would this information be
sufficient?

Good morning juggler-ga

By "spatial instructions" I mean - given a specific space what are the
height requirements.

My thinking is that there must be architectural or interior design
recommendations for *best* ceiling heights for a particular use of a
room.

I am curious about the Japanese method however I wonder if it would be
suitable for a 6' North American. I would appreciate a broader
answer.

Thank you for looking at my question.

uzzz --

Here is a link to the thread of a long-expired, interesting question
on ceiling height on which I worked long and hard. It doesn't deal
with your specific question, but you might find it interesting as

markj-ga - Read through the quite informative thread of Question ID:
93256. You certainly contibuted a significant amount of research on
the subject of the 8 foot ceiling standard. My quest continues to
find if anyone has published a guide with recommendations for best
ceiling heights taking into consideration the use of the room. Who
would have ever thought that ceiling heights would be such challenging
subject :)

I thank you very much for your posted comment.
