I am looking for information about medicine at the University of
Berlin between 1966 and 1968, specifically in the neurosurgical
department. I need names of department chairmen during this time,
even chairmen of the department of surgery will help. Also, was the
university hospital governed by the East German government or the West
German government?

Dear butch13,

Actually, two Universities existed in Berlin in that time: The Freie
Universität (Free University) in West-Berlin, and the Humboldt
University in East Berlin. Both had (and still have) neurosurgical
departments.

I have written to the information departments of both universities and
requested the information you need. As soon as I receive responses, I
will answer your question. But it may take some time since it is
weekend now, so please be patient.

Best regards,
Scriptor

Thanks, scriptor-ga, for your prompt attention to my question. I am
afraid that the only information I have is "University of Berlin." I
am writing a biography of Gazi Yasargil, a neurosurgeon, then in
Zurich, who was offered a job as neurosurgical department chairman
during these years. He did not accept the job so I expect no record
of the offer remains. Yasargil became the most outstanding
neurosurgeon in the world in the 20th century. Perhaps, if you send
me what you find from each university, I can figure out (from the
names of their neurosurgical chairmen, or department of surgery
chairmen) which institution I'm looking for. If not it was worth the
try. Answering the question about which government contolled with
university may also help. I'll be patient. No rush on this. Thanks
again.
