I would like to not spend more than 200. Needs optical input. Will
probably use for both my Xbox and DVD player on an HDTV. Brands? I
don't know- just want the best for the money.

Hi there,

I've found several units that have received positive reviews and are
priced under $200, however your requirement for optical input raises
the cost. The lowest price unit when including this feature is
approximately $230. Would you like me to post information on that
unit?

I understand that the only 5.1 speakers that will work for Xbox's HDTV
adaptor are Optical, as there is an optical plug on the HDTV adaptor.
If you are not familiar with this device, you may not be able to
respond.

Creative® Inspire? 5.1 5500 Digital Speakers Retail (XBox)

Upon my search for items that you've described, this one appeared
numerous times. I would trust Creative Labs with making quality
speakers for any situation, including for the XBOX. Plus, it is cheap,
and altho this particular site lists it in foreign currency, I am sure
you can find this product in your local Best Buy or some other online
source. It will also do what you wanted in addition:
while its line-in, coaxial and optical inputs ensure easy
connection to non-PC sources such as home DVD players.

MONSTER CABLE XG-SSGS-500 5.1 Surround Sound Gaming System for Xbox®

This looks like a good choice as well, these are specifically XBOX
designed, so they might not fit well with a home theater system that
is mostly black, or silver because they are green, but if you don't
care about how they fit in, this is another great choice. =)

Sounds good - but I 'm not sure how to pay you? How do I make a payment go through?

Unfortunately, you can't, I'm not a paid researcher. =(

Oh well. Anyway, I've settled on the z680s from Logitech, which no-one
recommended. Thanks anyway.
