I am looking for a poetry book that my father read from. He used it
while teaching 5th grade during the 1960s. He believes it was a
Scott-Forsman publication. It was approximately 9" x 5" and 3" thick.
It was, at that time, a pale blue. I believe it had a circle of
silver print on the front that may have included the words "treasury
of poetry". I am not certain about that. It included the poems, "If
Nancy Hanks came back as a Ghost", "Animal Crackers and Cocoa to
Drink", I'm Hiding, I'm Hiding, and No One Knows Where", and "Macavity
the Cat", among hundreds others. Is there any possibility of locating
this book with such sketchy information? If so, where is the best place to start?

Hello.

I believe that your book was "Time For Poetry" published by Scott,
Foresman and Company, 1951.

The cover "Time For Poetry" is exactly as you described (i.e., pale
blue with a circle of words). See a photo of the book at eBay:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3566268166&category=2226

The Library of Congress entry for the book indicates that had 438
pages, so that's consistent with your father's recollection of it
being quite thick!
See: Library of Congress catalog: Time for Poetry
http://catalog.loc.gov/cgi-bin/Pwebrecon.cgi?v3=1&DB=local&CMD=010a+51002431&CNT=10+records+per+page

-------

search strategy:
library of congress catalog: children, poetry, scott foresman
ebay: time for poetry

I hope this helps. If this isn't the right book, please use the
"request clarification" feature to let me know, and I will resume my
search. Thanks.

This was unbelievable! I got an answer to my question the next day!
My researcher found the book I was looking for with very "iffy"
information. I have already made a bid for a copy of the book which
is being sold on e-bay. I truly am amazed! Thank you so much.
