Question ID: 276059
I am investigation to lunch a new business unit:

Objectives:
To deploy wireless networking solution in residential rental complexes
(Multi Dwelling Unit) to enable landlords to provide wireless high
speed internet to their tenants. The wireless solution is combined with
an internal web portal to enable electronic rent payment,
maintenance and concierge request.
This would enable Landlords to generate a new revenue stream, raise
property value and increase tenants retention and satisfaction.

The revenue would be generated through solution sales and support. The model is
based on a justifiable rent increase (It?s for free for tenants). Break
even point is 10 months and a yearly cash flow after support fee of
14K a year for a med size complex.

I need to find information and analysis on this market segment:

- Companies that providing similar solution not wireless product for MDU. The
solution would include the product, installation service and ongoing support.
- What are the downsides of this niche? I know that couple of years ago
many companies tried to provide wire line DSL solution within building
and failed. Was that mainly due to the high cost of the solution,
changing the behavior pattern of people to switch from their ISP and
old email address, or is there is anything else I am missing. List of
barriers or resistance that one could encounter while penetrating such
market.
- What positioning one should take to market such solution: Raising
value property, Generate more income by justifying rent increase ?
increasing tenants retention and satisfaction. (brainstorming here ?
)an analysis of each one would be great.
- Study or information about landlords and property management
spending to add amenity in complexes and ongoing maintenance expenses:
Adding a pool, fitness room, fixing roofs, upgrading heating system.
- What common approaches landlords use to raise and improve the value of
their property? (I think the census bureaus could a good place to
start, and other source as well)
- What process one should go about getting a listing for the
residential complexes in a given area city? The kind of information
I?m looking for is addresses, phone number and Landlord names, number
of units, management company name etc.
