Question ID: 276160
1) When I click on an MP3 radio stream, such as this one: http://wmbr.mit.edu
2) Musicmatch Jukebox launches with a dialog box containing the question:
"Would you like to replace the existing file?" [Yes] [No]
3) It will not play the radio stream until I click on Yes or No
4) This makes it impossible to make an unattended recording
5) How can I make Musicmatch Jukebox skip this question and start
playing the radio stream immediately?

Additional notes
1) Windows XP
2) Musicmatch Jukebox Plus, ver.7.50.310
3) I use Total Recorder 4.3 Professional Edition, and it works fine
for making unattended recordings, except for this issue.
4) I don't know what "existing file" the question is referring to, and
it makes no discernable difference whether I click on Yes or No.

Hi,

Have you considered using another program for playing the stream? I've
just tried with Winamp 2.91 and it plays fine.

You can find Winamp here:
http://classic.winamp.com/

Please let me know if this works out for you.

Thanks.

Yes, I have considered using another program.
But I paid good money for Musicmatch Jukebox because it's supposed to
be one of the better music programs out there and I would just like
the darn thing to work.

And yes, I've tried emailing their crack tech support team several
times and all I get back is a series of form letters which clearly
indicate that nobody ever bothers to even read my question, let alone
consider actually answering it.

Hi,

This is only a guess, so please forgive me if it's wrong.

Please open any folder and in the address bar type %temp% , including
the % signs. This should take you to your temporary files folder.
Delete anything in there and see if you're able to start the playback
without the dialog box.

Thanks.

There's about 500 files in the Temp folder, plus there's about 30
sub-folders containing many more files and sub-folders. Do I delete
all files and sub-folders, or just the files?

Hi,

Unless you're in the middle of some program installation or running
some important program at the moment, you can safely delete
everything.

Thanks.

Nope. That didn't do it.

I suspect this has more to do with the fact that MusicMatch
is automatically saving your 'previously audited streams'
to a 'favorites' or 'recently opened' file:

"MUSICMATCH saves media streams to My Library, automatically.
This lets you return to your favorite streams through the
Jukebox without having to find the specific website again.
To view saved streams, click 'Streams' under the yellow,
View folder in My Library. When you play the streams in
your playlist, they will play just like a file on your
computer, even though they not installed onto your computer."

...and:

"MUSICMATCH will save streams that you play from other
websites. Streams will be saved to the 'View Streams'
folder. Click on the small, yellow 'View' folder in
My Library to view your saved streams."

Both from the following MusicMatch User's Guide page:
http://www.musicmatch.com/info/user_guide/play_music.htm#playvideos

I suspect you might have to check your 'My Library'
settings. Delete any entries from WMBR and see if the
stream then plays without a dialog box.

Then see if there's a way to shut off the 'automatic'
saving of media streams to 'My Library'.

Let me know if this helps...

Hi,

Have you had any luck with sublime's suggestion?

Thanks.

Nope. Didn't work.
I deleted all the streams in "My Library", but it made no difference.

Tech support finally provided some actual tech support, and they seem
to be on the right track, but they haven't come up with a solution.
Here's their suggestion and my results:

Hi J,
We're getting closer.
After deleting temporary internet files, the next time I launch the
radio stream the dialog does not come up.
But then the time after that, it does come up again.
Deleting cookies, deleting all offline content, or allowing Musicmatch
on the privacy tab all have no effect.
I tested it several times and the results were consistent.
Thanks, D

Hello D,

The main thing that comes to mind regarding this issue is that it
could be trying to replace a temporary file that already exists on
your system. You might try clearing your Temporary Internet Files
directory as follows:

- Close Musicmatch Jukebox.
- Click the Start button, then "Control Panel".
- Click "Network and Internet Connections".
- Click "Internet Options".
- Under "Temporary Internet files", click the "Delete Files" button.
- Make sure "Delete all offline content" is checked then click "OK".
- Also under "Temporary Internet files", click the "Delete Cookies" button.
- Click "OK".
- Click the "Privacy" tab.
- Under "Web Sites", click the "Edit" button.
- Under "Address of Web site", type "musicmatch.com" and click the "Allow" button.
- Click the "OK" button.

Does this have any effect on the problem?

Kind regards,
J

Hi,

That's good news, I wonder if you change the settings under 'temporary
Internet files' to 'every visit to the page' you get a better result,
or if you try the other settings.

Or could do some simple workaround with a batch file that would delete
the specific file in the folder creating the problem, which then
launches Musicmatch.

Thanks.

If changing the 'Settings' under 'temporary Internet files'
to 'every visit to the page' doesn't work, which it may not,
since that is controlling IE's response to a web page visit,
you could also try, on the 'Advanced' tab of Intenet Options,
under the 'Security' section:
'Empty Temporary Internet Files folder when browser is closed'.

Since this also controls only the browser, it may not help
with Musicmatch's response to a file placed in the Temporary
Internet Files. Beyond these suggestions, a batch file is
about the only way to go.

Referring back to the original question, you asked:
"How can I make Musicmatch Jukebox skip this question and start
 playing the radio stream immediately?"

I wonder if it isn't going through this dialog because you
are, as you said, clicking on a link "such as this one:
http://wmbr.mit.edu ". Perhaps you can avoid the dialog
simply by opening it from your Favorites folder, or the
'Recently Opened Files' both from within the Musicmatch
program itself, rather than by clicking on a link.

Let me know...
