I wish to fly from SW France, (Brive - Limoges - Bordeaux), to PISA. Where do I start to find out about flights? Is there info about flights by searching places, to / from etc or do I have to approach the search on an airline basis. Web sites with an English option preferred, but can get by in French. Not Italian yet! Thanks |

Thanks for asking! Unfortunately, one of the web's best fare comparison sites, Orbitz, does not allow searches with cities of origination outside of the U.S. Travelocity and Expedia show the most flights at reasonable prices originate from Bordeaux, with the lowest round-trip fare shown as $371.00 USD by AirFrance. An AirFrance one-way fare shows as $628 on June 23rd. As you can tell, fares vary greatly depending upon your travel dates. Searches are dynamic, so I can't link you to them directly. You'll need to enter the search criteria yourself. The two primary national flag carriers are AirFrance and Alitalia. Travelocity http://www.travelocity.com Expedia http://www.expedia.com Air France http://www.airfrance.com/us Alitalia http://www.alitalia.it/eng/entry.html CheapTickets.com is another online travel agency offering discount fares. They're also available for contact through an 800 number, if you'd rather get the lowdown on available flights, and fares, via telephone. 1.888.922.8849 CheapTickets http://www.cheaptickets.com If you're interested in ultra low fares for intra-Europe travel, you might find this article helpful. It describes the intra-European carriers (Buzz, EasyJet, GoFly, Virgin Express, RyanAir) in detail and offers links to their online sites. Though it might take a bit more searching by individual airlines, these are probably your best sources for low fares. All offer English language sites. Hi, Holidaymaker. I'd start with Orbitz (http://www.orbitz.com/) or Travelocity (http://www.travelocity.com/). Both companies sell airline tickets, but you can check prices on multiple airlines without buying anything. Have a good trip! Porkribs |

Consider taking the train. Likely not even necessary to change trains and the ride between those points is wonderful. All along the Italian Riviera, thru Cinque Terra, Carrara, etc. For a place to find routes sans prices: http://www.eurorail.com/railsked.htm with (some) fares: http://www.raileurope.com/us/rail/fares_schedules/index.htm Au revoir / Ciao kk |

Hi Holidaymaker Bordeaux is the largest city in the area you mention and is on one of the main arterial rail routes. Trains (per previous commenter) can go to Pisa - there is one that connects at Nice (a beautiful city) leaving Bordeaux (today) at 2139 (night train) arriving Nice 0755 , leaving 0925 and arriving Pisa at 1331 . Full details available from SNCF: http://www.sncf.com/indexe.htm (this gives access in english, including bookings. Hint - it can't cope with a search window for departures of greater than 4 hrs) Yes, the rail line is one of the most beautiful in Europe - at least the Riviera section, which conveniently is in the morning. For faster travel, I would recommend going through the Aeroport de Bordeaux website - which takes you through all flights out from Bordeaux, and all (including low cost) airlines using the airport. http://www.bordeaux.aeroport.fr/home.asp?fl=1&lang=fr There is a direct link to the main Amadeus flight system from here: http://www.amadeus.net/pl/bordeaux/fr/AABLNKENTRY.hot?FCT=AABLNKENTRY&LANGUAGE=FR&SITE=ADB However, the cheapest scheduled flight it found was Euro900, via Spain (there are no direct flights so you are stuck with Spain, Paris or even London for connections). Total flight time is around 5 hours including the connection, add in the airport transfers and you are getting close to a full day - might as well have a decent evening meal, sleep on the train and arrive for lunch in the centre of Pisa! |

Ryan Air is the cheapest lowfare airline in Europe. Amazing rates (if poor service, but hey, you get what you pay for). www.ryanair.com I am not sure if it flies directly between the cities you want, but I would look into it. Having lived and flown around Europe, I was happy with it. Also, the person who suggested trains might be onto something. Often cheaper and less of a hassle. You could always get an overnight car (couchette) if it is a longer ride. Just some thoughts. Good luck. |
