We have a piece of Scrimshaw with a beautiful engraving concerning a
naval battle involving Officers  Warren and Ellsworth...and we wish to
know about the background of this story..

I have one clue.  The only Warren or Ellsworth on a list of cfficers
of the Continental Navy and Marine Corps is James Warren, a Marine
lieutenant.  (A Massachusetts political leader of time was also named
James Warren, and it is conceivable that they are the same person,
though I certainly wouldn't assume that without evidence.)
