Hello,

Geocities does not offer CGI scripting, even with its Plus and Pro
packages. CGI scripting is most typically written in Perl or C++.

You'd need web hosting with CGI capability, or perhaps, alternatively,
PHP hosting. The most popular Open Source (free) forum software is
written in PHP. Most commercial webspace provides CGI and PHP
capabilities. There are also free web space providers that offer these
features.

CGI Host Search (tick the CGI box)
http://www.100-best-free-webspace.com/advanced-search.php

Free PHP Webhost Reviews
http://www.0php.com/free_PHP_hosting.php

Another alternative would be a remotely hosted forum, i.e. a forum
hosted on a forum service webserver, and linked or framed within your
own website.

Please let us know which option(s) you'd prefer.

I want the forum script to be made by yourslef or somebody, I don't
want a hosted forum or free on web to get. This forum will be for
personal use not for sale or anythnig else.

Sincerely, JT

Hopefully another researcher will be able to better assist you.

Without program details and testing parameters, it's impossible to
script. You'll have to specify a language, an environment, and your
server specifications in order to commission such a script. Geocities
does not allow CGI scripting. Such a coding project is time intensive,
probably more so than the offered fee will cover.

I can recommend phpBB, an open source forum script with thousands of
development hours invested to date. It can be customized to match any
website look at feel.

Hello,
Why don't you want an already made forum? There are great pieces of
software out there that can fit your needs. If not, are opensource and
can be customized. Please, let me know if you are interested. Also,
geocities it's not the best place to host such kind of scripts.

Regards.

Hello, justin:
Nice to hear that, but to run a forum (custom or already made) you
need a host able to run some kind of scripts (PHP, Perl) and host a
database (MySQL). I'm afraid that geocities is not the best place for
that. I suggest you to take a look to:

PHPWebhosting
http://www.phpwebhosting.com

The performance is great just for $9.95/mo.

Also, if you have any other site able to run such software, please,
tell me and I will install there. Please, let me know.

Regards.

Hello, justin:
Ok, so write a text file with all the access info to your host:
  host
  user
  pass
  database
  databaseuser
  databasepass
And upload this text file using this utility:

 http://www.xpde.com/upload.php

When you upload that file, I will be the only one with access to it,
so don't worry, this info won't be public.

Regards.

Hello, justin:

You can find your new forum here:

http://members.lycos.co.uk/justinforum/forum/index.php

You will need to login using the user/pass you provided me to access
your lycos account.

As you can see this forum is still empty, you now need to create
categories, forums, and setup all you need to make it look the way you
want. To access the admin panel go to:

http://members.lycos.co.uk/justinforum/forum/admin/index.php

If you don't know what to do to setup it, it's better to don't touch
anything, just call me, I'm here to help you until you get what you
want.

Please, use the Request for Clarification option to request "anything"
you need, when I say "anything" I mean "ALL YOU NEED", ok? ;-)

Regards.

You are asking three questions about scripts in goggle answers. Can
you explain why the scripts have to be written for you ? Well made
scripts for all the purposes you need are already existing and
available.
All that has to be done is install the scripts on you server (laare-ga
already explained that certain capabilities on your domain have to be
given. CGI scripts must be allowed and / or (depending on the
solution) the language php (and maybe a MySQL database) must be
supported.
I doubt if any of the google researchers active here is ready to write
NEW code for you.
A typical forum script e.g. may require thousands of programming hours.

So please let us know if another solution could help you.

um, no.

I REALLY doubt it would take thousands of hours. I am a perl
programmer and a fantastic board would take at most a month or two of
on/off programming on saturdays. Or so it would be for me.

and a "typical" forum would take a day or two of determined programming.
