Question ID: 276788
What is the product level profitability (gross, net, operating, or
pre-tax) of Intuit's Quicken for 1995-2003. It is important to get a
product level profit margin, not a firm level profit margin.

Ag2003 --

The publicly-available information on Intuit aggregates all of the
Quicken products into QuickBooks, including these specific products:
* Basic
* Pro
* Premier
* Enterprise
* Flavors: Accountants, Contractors, Healthcare, Non-profit and Point-of-Sale

The company does split services from products and in analysts calls
provides some information on unit shipments.

Any answer is going to have to rely on this business breakdown -- and
the HOPE that we can find some analysts assumptions on gross margins
for the packaged product.

If this is acceptable, I'll proceed with the research. It covers 8
years of annual and quarterly reports and will require some access to
securities analysts reports (and a bit of luck).

Best regards,

AG2003 --

Intuit only recently has started releasing more detailed information
about the Quickbooks product line. You may want to see their recent
financial releases to analysts and possibly listen to their earnings
webcast:

If you want earlier period earnings releases, let me suggest
contacting a commercial firm like Call Street to acquire them:

Omnivorous,

1) We would like you to track down the quicken and turbotax product
unit/level gross or net margin via analyst reports. We have found
generally, longer analyst reports have more relevant materials.
2) Thanks for the other suggestions, please contact if you have
additional questions.

Regards,
Rebecca

Rebecca --

I do a lot of financial work outside Google Answers, yet currently
don't have good access to analysts reports. In a past job, I was
lucky enough at a publishing company to have some access to the major
reports -- but this was WAY back when Ben Rosen (the retired chairman
of Compaq) was still working for Morgan Stanley.

I've tried over the past week to see what additional resources I can
find, with little success. I'll see what else can be dug up but
please don't hold your breath for this one.

Best regards,

Rebecca --

I've gained access to some analysts reports via Investext and am
looking at them to see if enough relevant data can be developed.
