I want to trace the details of a marriage that took place in London in
1974. I can supply one of the individuals full name and address at
that time. Is there a web site that will give me the full details
that the original marriage certificate would carry?

Hello again diddydo,

If you're interested in ordering a marriage certificate:

- You may order marriage certificates online if you are a resident of
the UK. Non-UK residents can still order certificates through
conventional channels.

- This office holds records of marriages registered in England and
Wales from 1 July 1837.

- You are not required to know the exact date of the marriage. The
year of the marriage is sufficient.

- You will be asked to fill in the following information:

Man?s Surname:
Man?s Forenames:
Woman?s Surname:
Woman?s Forename:
Date of marriage or specify 3 years to be searched:
Place of Marriage:
Name of woman?s father:
Name of man?s father

?If insufficient details are provided to conduct a search your
application will be returned to you.

I can provide you with the application form, address and fax number
for requesting the marriage certificate. The fees are available as
well.

Would this be an adequate answer to your question?

Thanks
Bobbie7

Thank you for trying to answer my question. A marriage certificate
would be useful, but what I was hoping to find was a web site that
would carry birth, marriage and death details that I could search
myself. Bearing in mind that this information is available to the
public anyway. A Part of my problem is that I do not have the full
details to order the certificate in the first place. As stated in the
question, I can only supply details of one person. The reason why I
need it is to narrow down a search for an old school friend. To give
an example, if I was to search on 192.Com for John Smith, I would
probably get 1000s of hits. If I could carry out a combined search
with the wifes name it would narrow the search down considerably.

Please advise before I make a decision on your offer of a form for the certificate.

Dear diddydo,

Unfortunately I have not been able to find a website that provides
that kind of information.

In any case this question will remain open and another researcher
might find something useful.

If not, just let me know in a couple of days if you would want me to
post my findings as the offical answer.

Thanks,
Bobbie7
