I'd like to know if you are looking for statistics on ships and
sailors for the whole world or just one country, such as the United
States.

I've located estimates of the number of ships lost at sea and the
number of sailors' lives lost at sea.

I doubt that any good data will be found regarding ships that vanish
for no known reason, although I did find an estimate of how many
yachts disappear without a trace each year.

If this information would be sufficient, please let me know, and I'll
be glad to prepare an answer for you.
