I am looking for information about an artist named Rik Vig.
I know that he painted a series of plates entitled "Fiddler on the
Roof", however I can't find any information about this artist.
At one time I owned a print of his entitled "Peace". I think that the
date on it was 1968. Unfortunately the print got heavily damaged
while in storage and I no longer have it. It would be nice if I could
find out if there is anywhere that I could reorder this print from,
but I would be happy with any additional information about this
artist.

Thanks!

Hi,

There doesn't seem to be an artist called Rik Vig. Perhaps you're
looking for Chaim Goldberg. Fiddler on the roof ->

here is a link to one of his plates that is currently being sold on
eBay:

Here is a link to a jpg of the back of the plate which gives a little
information about Rik Vig.

Also 2 other pieces of information I remember from the print which may
or may not be useful --
At the bottom of the print was "Purple Realm" and "Platt L.A. Calif"

Hi!

I can't give you a link to a place where you could actually buy the
print but I might have enough information to start you on your quest:

1. The name of the artist somehow got mixed up as far as I can tell.
What I found while researching your question was that the name of the
artist is actually Richard Vig, or "Rick Vig". You can find that name
e.g. in the following newsgroup posting:

nj.forsale - ORIGINAL Plate Artists Self Portraits
"http://groups.google.com/groups?q=%22rick+vig%22&hl=de&lr=&selm=33d37ff5.10686262%40news.micro.com&rnum=1"

I also found a picture of Richard Vig and wife/sister (?) Leola Vig at
their highschool reunion (Brewster High School - class of 1960)
http://www.geocities.com/DaveYoung.geo/leola.html

As far as I can tell the man on the picture is the man in the
promotional material on ebay. What do you think?

2. There's obviously more than one Richard Vig in the US, so I
compared addresses linked to other people turning up together with him
and ended up with this contact address which you might want to try:
"http://phone.people.yahoo.com/py/psPhoneEntry.py?firstname=Richard&lastname=Vig&street=41+3rd+Ave+Ne&city=Saint+Cloud&state=MN&zip=56304-0457&phone=3202538629"

This address is also pretty close to a little city called Brewster.

Does this help?

This is ringing a bell for me. Is the print entitled "Peace" fairly
described as an X-Ray of a hand in the pose of a "peace" or "victory"
sign... on a blue background, as I recall?

The reason I ask is, if this is the same item, it made quite an
impression upon me during a visit to the Guggenheim NY, and I remember
searching for information at that time. I seem to recall he also did
a collection of painted reproductions of famous photographs entitled
the "American Memory".

Of course, this all could be ringing the wrong bell <grin>.
