Whatever happened to Pepsi Kona? It was a coffee-flavored Pepsi (it sounds terrible but it wasn't, I swear!) that they test marketed in Philadelphia back in 1995 (possibly '94 or '96). I'm not sure where else they might have tested it. I've searched Pepsi's site several times and it's like it never existed. I'm sure it's not available anymore, I was just curious about what happened to it. Also, I still miss it 7 years later, so if anyone knows a good subsitute... |

Well it seems that Iīve found some information that might help you. The drink was reviewed at a website Iīve found. "This is one of the most hyped beverages and it is finally on the BevNET". ( http://www.bevnet.com/reviews/pepsi-kona/ ) You will find a review there but unfortunately they say that it has not been continued. But we already knew that ... Alternatives ? Well, it has been suggested: " I used to mix coffee and Diet Coke all the time..." ( http://www.infosponge.com/coffee/soda.html ) but I have not tested this. Could be ok because Pepsi Kona must have been very similar. Why donīt you try it out this idea ? At ( http://starbulletin.com/96/06/04/business/story3.html ) you will find another description of the drink - but it doesnīt help you to get it either. The best proposal is to buy a (hopefully) similar product called Borgnines Coffee Soda. It is desribed as "12 oz Longneck Bottle, Dark roasted coffee envelopes a very rich cola that makes this beverage drink like a meal. Contains: Carbonated Water, Unbleached Unrefined Sugar, Rich Italian Roast Coffee, Caramel Color, Natural Flavor." It can be ordered online at: ( http://store.yahoo.com/soda-pop/borcofsod.html ). Maybe this one helps. Why donīt you try to make carbonated coffee ? Maybe you know those machines used in many hoseholds to carbonate ordinary tap water to get sparkling drinks. Try to put coffee in the bottle where usually the water comes in. Good Idea ? I hope so. ( http://www.halfbakery.com/idea/Carbonated_20Coffee_20(ICED) ) Please let me know if any of those ideas really helped you. till-ga | |

This was essentially the answer I was looking for, although I did some research on my own and found out exactly where and when Pepsi Kona was test marketed. I really appreciated the suggestions for alternatives and plan to try them out. |

I came across Pepsi Kona just outside Atlantic City after a late night of gambling. I've convinced that beverage is the only thing that allowed my any my friend to remain awake for the 4-hour drive back to Washington, DC. When I did my own test marketing at a party that week with some leftover bottles, the results were not very good. My friend's hated it and I admit the effect of PepsiKona may have been better that the actual taste. |
