Among all the religions, I found Buddhism has the best explanation: First, are they really good people? What are your standards for good people? From a religious point of view, there are not many people on this planet are good people. Second, you do anything bad, you?ll be punished for it. Some times the punishment won?t come immediately, but it will come eventually. If not in this life, then in next life, or next next life? A person could be a perfect person in the current life, but he or she may made mistakes in previous lives. |

Perhaps for the same reason that good things happen to bad people, good things happen to good people, and bad things happen to bad people. Maybe things happen to people, without regard to the goodness or badness of either. - Hammer |

Perhaps the answer can be found in the converse. "The rain falls on the just, and the unjust." From your statement, one can conclude that there must be bad people, as well as good people in order for a comparison to be made. This said, there are also good things that happen to people. We live in a world and society that encompasses all who live in it. This may sound obvious, but then is it not true to say that who ever lives in the world, faces the things of the world. The affects are felt by everyone, not because of who they are, but rather because of where and when they are when events happen. Someone with Hilter masacist potential may be born into a multi-millionaire heritage, having nothing but "good" happen to them their entire life on this planet, whilst someone with the heart of a "Mother Theresa" may be born into extreme poverty, suffering until a bitter short life ends before they are able to speak of their pain and anguish. Fairness, justice, equality are ideals we place in our mind of what should happen, but the world which we occupy does not live by these rules, simply because we are not as evolved in our thinking as we think. |

Free will. Given to us and directly responsible. Sometimes for better and sometimes for worse. |

I strongly believe that it is not God?s will that bad things happen to people. God never causes bad things to happen, rather God allows bad things to happen. God allows bad to exist because to do good we must have the choice to do that which is good or to do that which is bad. To do good during our physical lives we must choose to do good instead of evil. It is not the acts that we do that are "good", rather it is the choice to do that which is good that is good. If during our life on earth we could only do that which was good, if we did not have the free will choice to do that which is good or not, we simply could not do that which is good. |

I might also add that I believe a human being cannot make a freewill choice to do that which is good if he or she knows that the choice they make will lead to their living forever in heaven or forever in hell. Knowing and understanding that consequence of the choice would be so overwhelming that no matter what the choice would have been absent that knowledge and understanding, every human being (or at least most human beings) would choose to do that which results in their living forever in heaven. The choice that they would make is to do that which if they do they will live in heaven, which is not a choice to do that which is good. If they choose to do that which if they do they will live in heaven, they are acting out of self-interest and not out of love, and they cannot do that which is good. I conclude that God allows bad things to happen in this world and does not absolutely reveal his existence to us, so that we may make a freewill choice to do that which is good, so that we may do that which is good. |
