I was in Rome recently, visiting from Edinburgh, Scotland and was able to drink a beer called "Devil's Kiss Strong Ale". It is sold in draught form in bars and in bottles. Both the bar font badge and bottle label are red bearing a picture of a castle flanked by two tridents bearing the name of the beer as described above and following information "ALC. 7.0% VOL John Calder & Sons Alloa Scotland" and "Imported from Scotland". The label on back of bottle bears the information that this beer is produced in Scotland by John Calder & Sons, Alloa, FK10 2AL. Question - Where can I buy this beer either in a shop or mail order. I live in Edniburgh. |

Dear jazzpuppy-ga I have had no luck with finding this particular beer. This is what I have found so far. A search on the beer?s name found references to The Rose Street Brewery, Edinburgh. I telephoned them and the person I spoke to had no knowledge of the beer. Perhaps a personal visit may illicit some further information. The Rose Street Brewery, Edinburgh Address: 55-57 Rose Street, Edinburgh, Midlothian, EH2 2NH Tel: 0131 220 1227 He referred me onto The Bow Bar (you may know it as a real ale pub). The guy there was helpful but had never heard of the beer. He looked the name up in a real ale directory but the name did not appear there. The Bow Bar, 80 West Bow (halfway down Victoria St), Tel: 2267667. No BT telephone listing for John Calder & Sons, Alloa. A search on the post code revealed that at the post code is a distribution deport for Tetley/Carlsberg. I called the number which transferred me to their customer help line 08457 820820. The customer enquiry agent asked at the depot and was informed it was a discontinued product code (quite old) but he was unable to give any information on whether it is brewed elsewhere. Perhaps another researcher may be more successful. answerfinder-ga "Devil's Kiss Strong Ale" ://www.google.com/search?hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&q=%22Devil%27s+Kiss+Strong+Ale%22 FK10 2AL ://www.google.com/search?hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&q=%22FK10+2AL%22 "the rose street" brewery ://www.google.com/search?hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&q=%22the+rose+street%22+brewery |

Dear jazzpuppy, I have checked the British patent office`s database for the owner of the trademark "Devil`s Kiss". It is a bit surprising that the Danish Carlsberg brewery is the company behind this beer: Mark Text: DEVILS KISS List of goods and/or services: Beers (...) Proprietor: Carlsberg International AS Vesterfaelledvej 100,DK 1799,Copenhagen,Denmark However, it seems to be made for export only: Most references I found came from Italian websites. Neither the Danish Carlsberg website nor the site of Carlsberg-Tetley mention this particular beer. Scriptor |
