Dear sulafa-ga The quickest source for this information is the CIA Fact Book. This page will take you to Military expenditure by each country in US dollars (alphabetically). The year of the source information varies. http://www.cia.gov/cia/publications/factbook/fields/2067.html By rank http://www.cia.gov/cia/publications/factbook/rankorder/2067rank.html Notes on this information appears at http://www.cia.gov/cia/publications/factbook/docs/notesanddefs.html#2067 Military spending as percentage of GDP (alphabetically). http://www.cia.gov/cia/publications/factbook/fields/2034.html By rank http://www.cia.gov/cia/publications/factbook/rankorder/2034rank.html Notes on the information http://www.cia.gov/cia/publications/factbook/docs/notesanddefs.html#2034 For additional information on each country's military, select the required country from the drop down box and under categories select the 'Military'. Stockholm International Peace Research Institute http://www.sipri.org/ The online military expenditure database provides military expenditure data by country in the following three formats: Military expenditure in local currency, at current prices. 1988-2002 Military expenditure in US dollars, at constant (2000) prices and exchange rates, 1988-2002 Military expenditure as a share (%) of gross domestic product (GDP), 1988-2001 You have to register to use the database http://projects.sipri.org/milex/mex_database1.html Use the search option on the front page to search for useful reports and articles. For instance, this link takes to a report on ?Military Expenditure and Conflict in Africa? with statistical tables etc. http://projects.sipri.se/milex/mex_afr_conflict.pdf Centre for Defence Information This has a search database which may provide you with additional information on certain countries. http://www.cdi.org/ I hope this answers your question. If it does not, or the answer is unclear, then please ask for clarification of this research before rating the answer. I shall respond to the clarification request as soon as I receive it. Thank you answerfinder Search strategy Already knew of the CIA web site "defence spending" "by country" ://www.google.com/search?hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&q=%22defence+spending%22+%22by+country%22 |
