I have found an eight minute plus version from the Let It Be sessions,
on a vinyl album. Would that be a sufficient answer?

Clarification of Question by yakker-ga on 19 Nov 2003 19:03 PST
to reiterate, i don't want information about the recording. i want
information about how to get a copy of the recording. if you can tell
me how to acquire the vinyl album reliably, that will be a sufficient
answer.

Hello yakker-ga,

There is a vinyl album called "Dig It!" that includes an 8 minute 23
second version of Dig It from the Get Back / Let It Be sessions.

If you are concerned about potential copyright issues, you may wish to
contact Apple Corps, the Beatles' record label, for information about
whether this recording is currently authorized, or whether there is an
authorized alternative.

Hi yakker,

Just thought I'd add this to justaskscott's fine answer. If you have
something to trade, here is another option:

Dig It (long version)	VBR 131:
"Again folks, I'd really rather make trades then sell--let me know
even if you have non-Beatles/non-bootleg music CDs to trade."

album. Listen closely for Heather Eastman's contributions in the
song."

I know you're not interested in recording information, but this may be
of interest in terms of whether you can find a 20-min version.

The late (and sorely-missed) Ian MacDonald is usually a model of
trustworthiness when it comes to Beatles information (especially as he
draws on the exhaustive research of Mark Lewisohn). In his book
Revolution In The Head (London: Fourth Estate, 1994), he refers to a
twelve-minute ad-lib. It's from this that the short released version
is taken. It's possible that the Beatles recorded it another time, and
that it went on for longer (even 20mins) then, but given relations
between the musicians at the time and the daftness of the song, it
seems unlikely.

In summary, then: you might be looking for a 20-min take in vain. You
might have to settle for 12!
