Photos of me seen on privately owned tv (during regular programming in
progress, ie. local news) as moving background. I captured photo on
digital camera. Am I crazy? How? I have high speed cable; two
computers networked. DVD and VHS capability. MS XP OS. BTW, I really
am sane. Several people confirm I am in the background. Could this be
done by hacker, or is only option done by other person in household??? |

Is your network wireless? Is the television in the home of someone
who has a cable connection as well?

MY laptop is wireless, and both computers, the desktop and my laptop
are networked through highspeed cable. The TV is in the same room and
connected as well to the highspeed cable. The background photos on the
TV only appeared while desktop computer was on and being used. I hope
this helps. Possibly with help from someone else via remote assist?? I
wish I could submit the photo. Thank you.

Howdy ispyfirefly,
Just so we are all on the same page ...
- TV is on, connected to high speed cable
- Desktop computer is on, connected to same high speed cable
- Photo of yourself appears on the TV, in the background
- Do the photos that appear on the TV exist as files on your
desktop computer, either on the hard drive or on a CD/DVD, or
as a file anywhere on your network?
- If the photo has never been in digitial form that you have
on your computer, do you recognize where the photo might have
been taken?
- When you say the photos appear as a "moving background"
does this mean it is a still image that "floats" in one
direction, and if so, in what direction does it move?
- Is the image "ghosted" in appearance, that is, not a sharp
image, such as real background image, and is it a "positive"
image, that is, not in reverse coloring, etc.
I am truly intrigued by your question, and have an idea of
how it could be done, but want to explore details before
making further suggestions.
Looking Forward, denco-ga

First off...thank you! You have no idea how much it means to have
someone actually take this seriously.
Yes the TV is on. Yes it is on the same cable speed as both computers.
The desktop is also on, and is always "in use" while these images
appear on the TV. Please note, if important, the desktop is the main
terminal the cable is connected to. That is the laptop is routed from
the desktop. Forgive my obvious lack of proper lingo. Yes the
background images, the actual content, is not active, or moving. The
whole "scene" is moving. And it is always moving to the left while
looking on to the TV. To be more specific, the images are images of
positions in a sexual act. They are a bit out of focus...a little
blurred...but no doubt they are of me. Color of hair & skin. To
someone seeing it while watching the news, lets say...would not
notice. But I saw simular images over time. I have never seen these
pictures. I am not aware of them existing. I've tried to find them on
the hard drive of desktop. No luck. BTW, I'm now starting learning
computer forensics as a career change. Thanks

denco-ga, to add a spin. not sure how to explain. almost like a layer
on the tv. there is a photo, very clear and large over these images in
the background. kinda like a top layer to cover the background. what
is even more interesting, is that i know i've seen this person(on the
top layer)somewhere on the web. the top layer does not move to the
left. ispyfirefly-ga

Howdy ispyfirefly,
Again, because of the nature of what you are describing, I want
to be sure to have as many facts as possible before posting any
conclusions. I appreciate your patience with these questions.
- Are there more than one image of you that appear?
- If so, is it one image one day, then another the next day?
- Is the image of you in a recognizable location?
The second question is very important.
Any other details, without divulging anything too personal, etc.
would be most appreciated.

Good Morning Denco-GA
I have once again reviewed carefully the photo I took of the TV.
1) There are two very clear images of myself, and one very clear image
of my husband. I believe there are other images that can't be clearly
made out.
2) I can only be sure that this was the first time I saw "myself" in
the background on the TV. I thought I saw myself several times. I
absolutely saw others in various positions, on separate occasions. No
one specifically that I know, except my husband. I would say for a
couple of months this type of activity appeared as a moving
background, behind regular aired programs. Particurally programs that
had background open space in each shot, like the news. Each time my
husband was at the desktop.
3) Each images (pieces in the overall background)have recognizable
aspects, sort of like a slice of various locations in our condo. It
actually has detracted me, because I looking at the overall image as
"one" background... rather than concidering it may be a collection of
scenes. Which would explain the many familiar pieces. I realize
without seeing the picture, my descriptions may not make sense. Thank
you, for your patience.
Additional details that may help.
Our living space was an open loft, no walls, within an old historic
bulding. The only reason I comment on this is because everything: the
TV, computers, DVD and VHS, as well as the sleeping area is completely
open and in view of the computer screen and TV.
Please let me reiterate. This is not about "catching" my husband at
anything. He remains to insist he knows nothing. We really don't even
discuss it. I believe I'm old enough and wise enough to understand he
may have just assumed I would just let this go. What other
explannation is possible. I have considered someone may have been
spying on the inside of our unit via large venting ducks that all
connect in the building, or this happened via the computer screen. But
how could it get onto the TV without someone physically inside the
unit??
When this first happened, I was actually questioned my sanity. Then a
few months later I came across the digital photo I took of the TV
screen. Ever since finding the photo, I knew I wasn't seeing things.
Now I just have to know how this happened. OK, I guess I'm a bit
obssessed. But this has an anwer, and I won't rest until I know the
only possible answers, technologically.
One more piece of info. I hope I can explain this. There were sounds,
muted, that always could be heard during these incidents. Sounds
like...people moaning (sorry), helicopters, dog barking, birds, a
woshing or maybe more specifically the sound of being in a wind
tunnel, and techno music..all these sounds sort of sounded like a
collage of different sounds that seemed to bounce off different parts
of the living space. One would not notice the sound in of itself, it
sounded like surround sound? The only reason I noticed them, was
because of the pattern. The sounds were pretty much only present
concurrently with the background activity on the TV. I began to notice
this pattern. I know this sounds crazy. For awhile I thought the
helicopter was outside. Our condo was in the center of a downtown
location. We have since moved. After hearing these sounds many
times....I began to put the sounds together with the images on the TV.
I hope you won't write me off as a nut case. I would, except for the
only real evidence I have.... The digital photo.
Thanks again,
ispyfirefly-GA

Howdy ispyfirefly,
Thanks much for all of the details, etc. and no, I do not believe
you are crazy. Your descriptions fit some low tech possibilities
of how this was all done, but I don't think you are going to like
my suspicions on whom I think was the person in the best position
to perpetrate this.
Please advise on how you would like me to proceed with this, such
as "just" outlining how this all came about, etc. Thanks!

Howdy ispyfirefly,
I am going to post the following as a Request for Question
Clarification to make sure it has enough detail to Answer
your Question to your satisfaction.
My professional opinion, as a tech person for over 30 years
as well as a computer security consultant for many of those
years, is that images you saw were not placed on your TV
through a video signal on purpose, but rather accidentally.
I strongly suspect the images were obtained from inside your
loft by someone inside the loft. I will let you draw your
own conclusions about whom this party might be, but I do
not think it is likely to be someone from outside your loft.
I strongly suspect what you are seeing is what is called
"video noise" or video signal bleed. Here are some examples
of this.
ePanorama.net's "Video Connectors" web page.
http://www.epanorama.net/links/videoconnector.html
"Some of the cheaper fully wired cables employ an overall
shield, instead of screening each conductor separately.
Over the length of the cable, the various signals may
interfere with each other. The most obvious problem is an
audible buzz, caused by the video signal leaching onto the
audio wires. You can also sometimes see ghos[t]ing video
images as video signal bleed form one wire to another."
Marc Peters' "Glossary of Digital Video Terms" web page.
http://www.marcpeters.co.uk/glossary.html
"Noise - A general term used in electronics to indicate any
unwanted electrical signal, unrelated to the original signal.
Video noise is generally manifested as snow, graininess,
ghost images or picture static induced by external sources
such as the national power-line grid, electric motors,
fluorescent lamps, etc."
An image moving to the left in the background and seen when
the regular TV image has a "blank" background, are all signs
of video bleed. The image moving is called "drift" and is a
typical indicator. The image in the foreground is puzzling,
but might be explained by the above.
It is my opinion that someone in your household secretly
took photographs of you and themselves, through some kind of
digital camera, possibly a wireless webcam. When these images
were viewed on a computer in your loft, and since that PC was
connected to the same high speed cable line as your TV, the
images also appeared on your TV. These images might have been
on the laptop that is connected via the wireless system.
Let me outline a hypothetical situation. If someone were to
take such images secretly, and those images appeared on a TV
in that person's household by accident, that same person might
deny any knowledge of such an incident. If on the other hand,
this person had nothing to do with such an activity, then they
would most likely be very alarmed (I would be...) by such a
unusual circumstance.
The sounds your were hearing, well, that is just plain strange,
but could be explained through the same process as outlined
above. The same wiring "problem" could also result in cross
bleed of audio, such as other people's stereos. baby monitors,
etc. Keep in mind that the video (and audio) signal bleed
could be caused on purpose as simply as splicing a video signal
output from a computer into your high speed cable wire.
Regardless of accident, or on purpose, the whole situation is
one that is quite unsettling.
You could do a global search on any computers in your household
for all images that might be on them. If you have Windows XP,
for instance, you can go to Start, then Search. Select "For
Files or Folders" from the menu. On that menu, you can select
"Pictures, music, or video" and then select "Pictures and Photos"
from the next screen. Click on the "Search" button without
using a file name. This should produce thumbnails of all the
image files on the PC. If there are many, this could take some
time.
If you need any clarification, feel free to ask.
Search Strategy:
Personal knowledge and a Google search on keywords: "video signal" bleed
://www.google.com/search?q=%22video+signal%22+bleed

hello denco-ga,
Thanks...I must admit your conclusion is a bit over my head...but I
believe I got the basic concept. Someone inside, took the images, and
then through our cable placed them onto our TV, via vhs or dvd? Did
you actually view the photo on the hyperlink? Please just conmfirm to
me if ayou saw the photo and that you do see the background images???
please!

Howdy ispyfirefly,
I did view the images that you posted, and even though I used
several tools to attempt to enhance, etc. the images, I didn't
see the things you described. That might be because of change
in resolution due to the place you posted them, etc.
None the less, I still believe what you say is true.
To clarify my last post re: the process that I suspect that made
the images appear on your television, here is an outline of what
I think happened.
- Someone took some images of you, and others.
- Those image were viewed on a computer in your loft.
- That computer, by virtue of being on the network that exists
in your loft, caused the images to "bleed" to your television.
I do not believe there was an actual "playback" of the images via
a DVD or VHS, rather the images, by the process of being viewed on
a computer in your loft, caused the images to appear on your TV.
