Hi omnitemm,

Briefly, "yes" - Sorbitol (Maltitol) is a sugar alcohol and should be
avoided by people who have a problem with Candida.

Maltitol Characteristics:
"Maltitol is in a class of alternative sweeteners known as polyols
which includes sorbitol, xylitol, and mannitol. Also refered to as
sugar alcohols, part of polyols' chemical structure resembles sugar
and part is similar to alcohols."
"Because of the sugar alcohols present in the chemical structure it is
generally not a good fit for those who are yeast intolerant (i.e.
Candida Albicans and yeast infections)"

Candidiasis:
"Avoidance of sugars and refined carbohydrates (white rice, white
flour, date sugar, cane sugar, beet sugar, molasses, sorghum,
turbinado, mannitol, lactose, sorbitol, malt, maple syrup, fructose,
corn syrup, sucrose, brown sugar, maltose, glycogen, galactose, honey,
etc.) is critical."

DietNet:
"Vegetable Glycerine: Gail Burton, author of "The Candida Control
Cookbook" considers it the only acceptable sweetener for candida
sufferers."
"If you have diabetes or candida or are on a carb controlled diet,
avoid all sweeteners apart from stevia, glycerine and diastatic malt"
