I was thinking that physiologically, the functioon of the "left arm" may be to interpret signals sent by a specific area fo the right side of the brain, and vice-versa. In other words, the left arm is physiologically responding to signals emanating from a certain part of the brain--and this leads to discussion of left/right hemisphere control and bilateral symmetry.
