Hi Mendy9!

There are an estimated 25,000-30,000 species of orchids worldwide and
it is probably the largest flowering plant family.

?Since the first artificial orchid hybrid flowered in 1856 in England,
the number of hybrids registered is fast approaching 100,000 due to
the high degree of compatibility among species.?

?Orchids occupy almost every conceivable habitat type except the
oceans, from tropical cloud forests to seashore scrub, from tundra to
semi-deserts. You can find them in the Andes and Himalayas, the
Everglades, ancient Roman and Mayan ruins, even your own back yard.?

I went to Odom?s Orchids Inc. http://www.odoms.com/ , one of the
largest growers and shippers of retail orchids in the United States
and searched their catalog for the orchid you received.

Your exact orchid is listed and it belongs to the Oncidium genera.

I located an archived publication courtesy of the American Orchid
Society which discusses the feeding and care of the Oncidium.

This fact sheet is comprehensive and you should find everything you
need to know about caring for your orchid.

Such as:

- Light
- Humidity
- Fertilizer
- Potting
- Temperature
- Water

Kaua'i Orchids also makes their orchid care and culture sheets available online.

?This is the place to find information on caring for your orchids. Use

Hello again mendy9,

I wrote to Rainer at Pair-A-Docs Orchids
http://www.markowconsulting.com/pair-a-docs/Index.asp
asking about the care of the Odbrs. Fangtastic Bob Henley 'HOF#4' as I
saw one on the website.
http://www.markowconsulting.com/pair-a-docs/odontocidiums.asp

He kindly replied with the following information:

He says that the care of the plant is relatively easy - the fangtastic
has pseudobulbs (the roundish balls from which the leaves grow).

The watering schedule that he uses is: once a week in general - but he
watches the pseudobulbs to see if they are nice and plump.

Water once a week - no more unless you see the bulbs shrink and get
wrinkly - then water a little more often for one or two weeks - then
go back to once per week.

In general, orchids don't need much fertilizer.

He said that he would use a little osmocote time release fertilizer (a
good balaced fertilizer is best - don't try bloom booster or anything
special).

Finally he recommends repotting the plant into a pot at least twice
the size of the one it came in.
