There was an episode of ER which started with wide panning shots over
Chicago covered in snow and looking quite peaceful. It had a great
track playing over the top and I'd love to know what that track was. I
believe the episode might be "blizzard" from season 1. Does anyone
have any ideas?

Hi tomhopkins!

Could the song be Let it Snow by Gloria Estefan?

You may listen to it here:

Thanks,

Um, no, it was a more funky song with- I'm pretty certain - a male lead singer.

Hello again Tomhopkins,

Here's a discussion about the song that might interest you.

"I've searched the FAQ and web pages with no luck. Does anyone know
who sings the christmas song at the beginning of "Blizzard"? Jerry is
walking through the snow to get in to work while someone sings a
version of the christmas song whose lyrics include "The weather
outside is frightening" and "I wanna sleighride, I wanna sleighride"."

(..)

"Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow" I don't know if that's the
title or not, it is part of the lyrics though. It's a newer version of
the old traditional xmas song and sung by a woman. I'm trying to find
out who or what group sung it.

That makes it sound that the episode in question would be a different
one (i.e. not blizzard) becuase the song I'm thinking of is a funky
band and certainly not a traditional christmas song, perhaps like the
dandy warholes.

Sorry if this doesn't seem to help very much.

Can you remember the lyrics of the song?
Even a few words would help.
Any other details of the episode?

I am afriad not, although i think the opening scene went on for about
1 min and i'm pretty sure it was one of the er episodes with george
clooney in.

Hello tomhopkins,

I?m glad I was able to find the song for you. ?Walkin' on the Sun? by
Smash Mouth was played during the opening scene of the ER episode
titled ?Carter's Choice? (Season 4, Episode 13, Original Airdate:
January 29, 1998).

A summary of the episode can be found at the following link:

Carter's Choice -- Summary and Review
by Lisa Albert
http://www.digiserve.com/er/episodes/season4/er413s-r.html
?Morning begins as Carter is trudging through the snowstorm, as
"Walking on the Sun" is playing. He sees things are slow in the ER and
checks on Anna as she is asleep. She wakes up and he agrees to go get
her breakfast. However they both quickly go attend to an incoming
trauma, a guard with multiple gunshot wounds.?

The song is found on the Smash Mouth CD ?Fush Yu Mang? released in 1997.

?During one of the episodes, I think it was a blizzard outside, and
when Carter is walking into the ER, they are playing "Walking On the
Sun" by Smash Mouth. I thought that was kind of ironic.?

A fantastic and entirely comprehensive answer. I'd looked around for
ages and found nothing but you were spot on.

Here's a couple of wild guesses, based on your description of the
version you heard as "funky" and with a male lead and the message
board suggestion that the song's lyrics included the words "Let it
Snow, Let it Snow, Let it Snow."

Here is a link to an audio clip of what is arguably a semi-funky
version by the 1945 pop standard "Let It Snow, Let It Snow, Let It
Snow," by the Temptations:

And here is a link to a clip of a version of an entirely different
song called let it snow, sung by Boyz To Men:

Did the song you recall sound like either of the above?
