Looking for a mail client to replace MSOE which:

- will run on windows XP
- will support multiple POP3 accounts
- allows sending mail in plaintext format
- has rule-based filtering comparable to MSOE
- is either free or reasonably priced
- will automatically query the mailservers at a set interval
- will automatically forward filtered mail to a spamcop reporting
address, as a text/plain or MIME attachment, at a set interval

Essentially I'm happy with MSOE except for the fact that it won't
forward spams to spamcop as a text/plain or MIME attachment.

Thanks, the answer need only be very short if you can identify a good client.

(If my question is unclear please don't hesitate to ask for
clarification. If the feature I'm looking for is inadvisable or
unavailable, an explanation of why could be acceptable as an answer.)

Hi there Costa,

It appears that you're looking for Eudora by Qualcomm.

- It will run on Windows XP
- It supports multiple POP3 accounts, (called "Personalities")
- It has the option of sending in plain text
- It has rule-based filtering, but slightly different from MSOE, but
still very intuitive
- It's free
- It downloads mail from the server at user-defined intervals
- It automatically forwards filtered messages to whatever e-mail
address you provide as plain text. It doesn't appear that you can set
the interval, but rather it sends the message upon receipt.

Another free option would be Opera Mail, or M2 as it's now called.
The only thing it won't do is automatically forward filtered messages,
but as I said, it *is* free :-)

Hope this solves your problem. If you need clarification, don't
hesitate to use the "Request Clarification" button.

Hello again,

Sorry, I neglected to give the URL for Eudora. You can find the
download page here:
http://www.eudora.com/download/

Also should have mentioned that Bluesun's comment below is correct,
web-based clients do most of the things you need, but Eudora still
seems to be your best fit. I use the web-based client Horde, and it
also does most of the things you need, but again it fails to forward
messages via filters.

Ok, I think that's it. Have a good day!

(Still happy to accept a paid answer to either the question as
originally put, or else details as to how a message could be
automatically forwarded as a text/plain or MIME attachment using
Eudora.)

Ok, sorry again. Missed the fact that this is old ground. To forward
the message in Eudora, this is the path to follow:

* From the "Tools" menu, select "Filters"
* Under "Match" select your specifc criteria regarding spammers
* Under the "Action" section of the Filter dialog, click on the first
bar. A series of choices will be offered to you. Choose "Forward to"
and enter the e-mail address you want.

That should see you through that, but you'll also need to make sure
the message is sent in plain text. To do this, go to the "Tools" menu
again, and select "Options" way down at the bottom. About half-way
down the selections on the left side of the Options dialog box is one
called "Styled Text". Select it, then click on the "Send plain text
only" box.

Ok, hopefully the third time's the charm, here.

Signing off yet again,
Kutsavi

What you could do is get the Firetrust Mailwasher Pro.
Now, this is not a full fledged email package. What it does though is
that it connects to your POP server, downloads the emails, checks them against
a known list of spam addresses and also gives you the option of
flagging messages you consider as spam and sending of these spam definitions
to a central server to be added to an evergrowing list.
The URL of the product is:
http://www.firetrust.com/products/mailwasherpro/

And the details regarding the spam reporting are on:
http://www.firetrust.com/products/cfs/
Last but not least, let me add that this program runs along MSOE w/out
having any sort of interaction or integration with it. It just connects to
your inbox, gets the emails, enables you to get rid off and report spam
and then launches MSOE.

Hope I was of some assistance.

I would suggest a web based mail client. They are heavily
customizable to your own needs (it helps if you can code). I use
www.hivemail.com. They plan to release the latest version end of
December... Not only can you develop your own customizations but the
folks at hivemail take direct customer input for future hivemail
innovations.

It would run on any Operating System you require.
It will support pop3 clients
It allows sending mail in plaintext format
It has rule-based filtering
It is reasonably priced
It will automatically query the mailservers at a set interval
it may be possible to automatically forward filtered mail to a spamcop reporting
address, as a text/plain or MIME attachment, at a set interval
